Fraud Protection
AVS - A system used to verify the address of a person claiming to own a credit
card. The system will check the billing address of the credit card provided by
the user with the address on file at the credit card company.
Velocity Fraud Checking - Customer activated transactions or pay-at-thepump transactions are deemed high risk because there are no employees
present to perform identity verification checks on card transactions, making it
easier to pay with stolen cards. With Velocity Fraud Checking, PCS can set a
limit to the number of times you want a consumer's credit card to be used at
the pump in a 24-hour time period. Cards exceeding these preset limits are
asked to go inside for further use.

Common Terms





PANPF /Partial Authorization - Code VISA and MC use for a partial
authorization fee. Normally the pump authorizes a set amount - $75 or $100. If
the cardholder only has $20 in their account, then the partial authorization
function will authorize it for $20 so there can be a sale rather than a flat out
decline.
Pump Authorization Limits - (Shut off Amounts) are set by each POS device
by card type and are not controlled by any First Data System. Merchants may
contact their POS vendor for support on changing their limits by card. Max limit
by card type: $75.00 – Visa; $100.00 - MC, Discover, Amex.
Datawire - Datawire Secure Transport Microcode is a communication service
that securely and reliably transmits transactions via the Internet from your pointof-sale system to First Data. An alternative to dial-up, VPN, MPLS and direct
circuit connectivity methods.
Vendor - Also known as the service technician - they are licensed to work on
the equipment. They will perform the site assessment and give a quote on the
necessary cost to do the site conversion, they will also do the conversion.
Jobber - The fuel supplier, they deliver the fuel to the location.
