Attend this meeting tonight! • The Olympia High School Drill Team serves the student body of Olympia High School and the community of Olympia by promoting school spirit and supporting all athletic teams and activities. Involvement in the team will develop leadership, self-confidence, respect, teamwork, accountability, and commitment. Striving to build the team as well as individual skills is a goal for everyone. • Being a member of the Olympia High School Drill Team is a privilege and honor. Taking pride in performing routines and positively supporting school activities and school sponsored community events is important. Working for the highest standards while developing work ethic is expected of all team members. Teamwork, integrity, open communication, optimism and mutual respect is valued. • Positively represent OHS in leadership, sportsmanship, and athletics at all times. • Perform at assemblies, half time shows, community events, and competitions. • We are a Fall and Winter Season sport. • Fall season is primarily dedicated to the support of the OHS Football team, and related school activities to engender spirited support for the team. • Winter season is two fold. We support OHS Boy’s and Girl’s Basketball Teams. We also endeavor to compete. This would be considered our competitive season. • If a girl wishes to be a part of the Winter Competitive Season they must be a member in good standing from Fall Season. • Girls are selected based on their cumulative score. The following categories will be scored to create an overall total. • Application • Teacher recommendation • Try out performance • Informal interview • Knowledge of Routine, to include proficiency when performing • Showmanship and Poise (Smile, engage the crowd, have fun!) • Overall Sharpness, and Posture • Precision Drill Moves, to include Pom Moves • Kicks, to include High Kicks • Flexibility • Splits and Toe Touch Jumps will be recorded • An individually created set of four 8 counts by each athlete. • Show your skills! •April 19, 20, 23 & 24 from 3:15 to 5:00 PM •Optional AM Practice April 20, 23 & 24 from 6:00 7:00 AM •Try Outs! April 26th 3:00 PM • GPA, Athletic code, and OSD Student handbook guidelines must be followed to maintain eligibility. • Our team uses a demerit system to calculate lettering eligibility, and clearance for performances and team standing. • All members begin with 20 points. • Drill Team Demerit Point Steps: • - 5 points = student conference with coach • - 10 points = student/parent contact • - 15 points = student/parent contact and suspension from team (time determined by coaches). • -20 = Dismissed from the team for the remainder of the season. • Attend and be punctual to ALL events (practices, performances, community events, etc.) • Maintain a 2.0 grade point average at minimum at all times. • Maintain athletic eligibility. • Keep your physical up to date. • Abide by the OHS and WIAA athletic code. • Abide by the Olympia School District Student Handbook Guidelines. • Abide by the Drill Team Constitution • Maintain appropriate dress code as outlined by the OHS Drill Team Constitution. • Maintain the integrity of the entire uniform. • Show a positive and supportive spirit at all times. • Monday & Wednesday • 3:15 – 4:30 for routine focus • Tuesday & Thursday • 3:00 – 5:00 for routine focus and conditioning *Be advised: Due to budget adjustments at the district level, the practice schedule is subject to change. • Athletes may only attend practice if they have attended an entire school day. • Exceptions to the all day rule are excused medical absences with a note from the medical provider: • http://olympia.osd.wednet.edu/activities/sports/athletic_attendance_pol icy • Schedule ALL nail, hair, tanning, birthday parties, vacations, etc. around the existing OHS Drill schedule available on Google Calendar. • Athletes are expected to attend ALL practices, performances, community events, etc. This includes AM practices, and practices with other organizations to accommodate a performance (i.e. practice with the band, practice with CHS for Spaghetti Bowl etc.) • Expect demerit points if a practice, performance or function is missed with out a medical excuse or if it is unexcused at the OHS attendance office. • Show up to the performance on time, ready to perform. • This means the uniform is on and complete, hair and makeup are done. • All parts of your uniform are on, clean, and in tact. • Attend at least three of the four practices prior to a performance. The one absence must be excused by either a medical note, or a full day excused absence from the OHS Attendance office. • Drill Team points are calculated and approved by your coaches for performance eligibility. • GPA is at 2.0 or above. • Deposits and Dues • $200.00 uniform deposit due June 15th • ASB Card $40.00, and Pay to Play $125.00 Due August 20th • Uniform Fitting & Parent Meeting! • May 4th @ OHS 5:30 PM • ALL uniform pieces are the responsibility of the athlete.
