Lesson 1

Do Now: Introductions in Spanish (do a twist on traditional introductions with a verb and a corresponding action)

Objectives:

Introduce ourselves

Take brief student survey and preliminary quiz

Review syllabus and expectations and set goals for the year

Vocabulary refresher

Homework: Sign up for DESCUBRE supersite (hand out info); word list for Ch. 1 vocabulary

Lesson 2

Do Now: Set up binders/go over expectations for them

Objectives:

Go over quizzes from yesterday and correct errors

Introduce Ch. 1 vocabulary pp. 1-3 (native speaker audio, book exercises)

Practice new vocabulary with dialogues/skits

Homework: 10 sentences using vocabulary from Ch. 1 (pp. 1-3)

Lesson 3

Do Now: Describe all the best qualities/attributes of an imagined boyfriend or girlfriend (use vocabulary). When you are done, describe all of the worst.

Objectives:

Share sentences and offer critique (check for errors)

Start present tense verb review (pp. 14-15) – do human verb chart

Complete p. 16, ex 1, 2 in pairs (to be collected)

Board races to end class

Homework: CP 3 (worksheet)

Lesson 4

Do Now: Compare homework with a partner; pick 1 exercise to do on the board together.

Objectives:

Examine more complicated differences between ser and estar (pp. 18-19) and take notes

Activity –¿Quién es? Use ser and estar to describe a famous person or faculty member; have

class guess who it is

Exercises 1-2, p. 20 in small groups (go over as a class)

Homework: CP, pp. 5-6

Lesson 5

Do Now: Ser and Estar rap

Objectives:

(Ser and Estar pop quiz)

Read Expresiones utiles and scan Fotonovela for unknown words or cognates – try to get a gist on your own, then read/act out as class

Watch Fotonovela and write a paragraph response to the video.

Homework: p. 8, ex 1-2

Lesson 6

Objectives:

Progressive tenses (pp. 22-23) with visuals

Que estas haciendo – verb game with movement

Create illustrations using progressive tense verbs and Ch. 1 vocabulary

DESCUBRE accounts – make sure all students have one!

Homework: p. 24, ex 1, CP 7-8 worksheet

Lesson 7 – Computer Lab

Do Now: Go to lab; take out homework

Objectives:

Review verb tenses and vocabulary on the Supersite (Do all Leccion 1 Completar activities for practice and submit)

Homework: Study for quiz

Lesson 8

Objectives:

Quiz on vocabulary, present tenses, ser and estar, and progressive tenses

Homework: Study and memorize vocabulary on p. 26 (Antes de ver el corto)

Lesson 9

Objectives:

El corto p. 26 (Antes de ver activities), movie poster p. 27, and Escenas p. 28

Show Momentos de estacion twice and discuss

Homework: Despues de ver el corto, pp. 29 ex. 1-2 (start in class) and write a 3-5 sentence reaction to the short

Lesson 10

Objectives:

Complete “Antes de leer” activities (31)

Skim Pablo Nerruda’s “Poema 20” and look up unknown words (use overhead projector to add)

Read aloud as a class, then analyze each stanza and try to improve accent and accuracy

Introduce (but not hand out)written assignments pertaining to the poem

Homework: Memorize and practice 8 successive lines of the poem to present orally (will be graded)

Lesson 11

Objectives:

Revisit “Poema 20” and complete Critical Thinking written activities (TE, pp. 32-33) individually

Recite poems and give feedback

Homework: Finish written work (imagery/themes, response) due on Test day
