SUPER RESERVE LIST
Bottle
2004 Vinya del Vuit "El Ocho" (Priorat)
110
94 points Robert Parker: In Sept, 2001, La Vinya del
Vuit was created in Gratallops by eight friends. The
group took the extremely old vines on these schistfilled hills to create a new enterprise. They currently
produce only one bottling and this singular wine is
produced in extremely limited quantity. Harvest is
always by hand at this tiny estate and is carried out
only in the early hours of the morning. The grapes are
taken to the winery in small refrigerated trucks. There
is an aggressive winery sorting before a portion of the
grapes are crushed. Fermentation starts naturally
using only indigenous yeasts & may take up to a
month in 500 liter, open-top tanks. The grapes are
then crushed again before being racked (only by
gravity) into French oak barrels for ageing.
Tremendous wine. Get it while you can!
2005 Vinya del Vuit "El Ocho" (Priorat)
120
94 points Robert Parker: "This micro-cuvee of 2000
bottles takes its name from the eight member
partnership. The wine is 95% Carinena & 5% Garnacha
exhibiting a splendid perfume of earth, mineral, tar,
rose petals, blueberry, & cherry. The wine is surprisingly
Barolo-like with a long finish and 5-7 years of cellaring
potential. It will show at its best from 2012 to 2025."
Bottle
2006 Artadi Pagos Viejos (Rioja)
125
94 points Robert Parker: "The 2006 Pagos Viejos is
sourced from Tempranillo vines over 75 years of age &
aged for 18 months in new French oak. The wine is
inky purple with a sublime nose of pain grille, graphite,
black cherry, wild blue fruits, & blackberry. This leads
to a dense, plush, remarkably elegant wine which is
already exhibiting some complexity. While rich
enough to be enjoyed now, it will improve for 5-7
years & be at its best from 2015 to 2030."
2006 Artadi "Viña El Pison" (Rioja)
220
97 points in the Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Vina El
Pison comes from a single Tempranillo vineyard
planted in 1945 on pure limestone. The wine was
aged for 16-18 months in new French oak. It has an
ethereal nose found only in the greatest wines. Toasty
oak, wood smoke, truffle, wild blueberry, & blackberry
liqueur are striking & complex. This is followed by a
layered wine with an elegant personality that still has
plenty of grip, breadth, & length. It is a tour de force
that will provide pleasure over the next 20-25 years."
95 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine
Cellar:
