Searching for Classes by Subject
Select the subject area and the courses will populate
Byrne Seminars & FIGS are under “Arts and Sciences (090)”
Registration Workshop
Searching for Classes by Keyword
Why it is useful:
Byrne Seminars
Arts and Sciences
Intro to Business
Administrative Studies
Limitations:
You must refer to the course exactly as it appears in the Schedule of Classes
Development of Europe can be found by “Europe,” but not “Development”
You cannot exact a search using quotes
A search for Art will render results for “Earth” and “Apartheid”
Registration Workshop
Searching for Classes by Core Code
Why it is useful:
Identify courses across multiple subject areas
Limitations: keep in mind that courses are certified for the SAS
Core every semester!

Top Five Reasons “It’s Not Working”
1. You don’t have the prerequisite
READ THE PREREQ COLUMN!
2. It is restricted to a specific population of students
READ THE NOTES!
3. You don’t have enough credits to drop
ADD A COURSE!
4. The course is mandatory
THERE’S NO ESCAPING EXPOS!
5. It meets at the same time as another course on
your schedule
ADD A DUMMY/ONLINE COURSE, DROP THE
CONFLICT. OR COME TO AN ADVISING CENTER!

Special Permission Numbers (SPN)
Function, Fact and Fiction
Definition: A six-digit code which overrides class stoppoints, obtained from professor or department (does
not override prereq)
Courses that DO NOT give special permission:
Writing, Economics, Computer Science, Byrne Seminars
and FIGS
Math and Chemistry: go online!
SPNs only work once and are section-specific

September 9 is the last day to add a course
