Jordan Maganis Per. 7 US Gov. January 22, 2012 Essay Each and every one of us has a right to do and say as we please and be apart of this nation. We were given rules and regulations in order to keep things in orderly fashion and be safe. As time went by, the people started to bend the rules and used it as leeway in order to do things that they weren’t supposed to. People find loopholes within the rules of society and hire others in hope of finding even more. Some of the more general rights that have been given to the citizens from the government were the freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of assembly, freedom of association, and the freedom of petition. Freedom of speech has allowed us U.S. citizen to speak out what ever we want whenever we want. And this causes people to stir up sticky situations. Especially back in those days where there were so much segregation between races and what might have you. They speak out by pure speech, speech-plus, and symbolic speech. Pure speech is a simple face-to-face discussion. Speech- plus is when you speak out with some kind of action. And last is the symbolic speech and they substitute actions and object with words of emotion. Freedom of the press went on trial when a New York printer who published articles that criticized the British colonial governor, and this lead to the John Peter Zenger. Freedom of assembly has lead to the Edwards vs. South Carolina. And this had lead to retaliation towards the police. Freedom of petition and association has also caused some kind of stir up as well. My next piece of evidence brings us to the process clause. It ensures civil liberties but limits federal power. Although this may seem like a probable law, people now can freely choose to not only disrupt the law, but cause struggles and hardships throughout the whole government. The fourth and fifth Amendment limited investigations such as searching for seizures, the use of evidence, and electronic surveillance, it also protected the right of the accused and allowed limits on criminal charges as well as protecting witnesses. The sixth Amendment ensures a fair trial but also promotes the right to legal advice from others. This can definitely cause a disruption in the government along with the eight Amendment rights and death penalty controversy. In my opinion these were badly placed rules and according to the people, should have never been retained within the government. One of the biggest controversies was about the death penalty. In some cases it may be wise to pick that result, but in other cases there would be no need for it and should not come into effect. There are three zones of privacy, all in which it has something to protect. The rights to privacy include through thoughts and beliefs, about personal information, and in family and personal relationships. Personal information, privacy in personal relationship, and abortion are the main points in this area of privacy. When people of different cultures and ethnic backgrounds struggle for their equal right and opportunities it is because they are the minority. Discrimination within the people and government has also been legalized because it has not settled just yet for the whites. When people are fighting for what they believe in, others think it is not appropriate and through that controversy, a greater line of segregation has been made which brings up an even worse issue that not only we as people must face, but the government too.
