Hours/Week: 15 – 20 for a calendar year (Federal, Administrative, and School Holidays off)
Travel: Must have reliable transportation to reach school sites in Fort Worth area.

ABOUT GENERATION HOPE
The mission of Generation Hope Laptop Program is to nurture, empower and develop the whole child by
leveraging technology with computer involvement and global awareness to brighten their life possibilities. The
Generation Hope Laptop Program was designed to educate and enhance student’s ability to use technology to achieve
academic success. In the upcoming fall of 2011, the Generation Hope Laptop Program will provide laptops and structured
curriculum to approximately 350 sixth, seventh and eighth grade students in 19 schools in the Crowley, Everman, and Fort
Worth Independent School Districts. The mission of Generation Hope Laptop Program is to nurture, empower and
develop the whole child by leveraging technology with computer involvement and global awareness to brighten their life

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Program Instructor will interact with middle school students, parents, and campus liaisons. They will
present structured after-school curriculum and coordinating projects in a manner to help actualize the mission
statement and goals of the program. Must be available for after school instruction two evenings a week as well as
attend the once-a-month Saturday events and twice a month Instructor Meetings. Instructors are expected to
interact with students and parents outside of the classroom in order to effectively create cohesive relationships
bettering student achievement. Program Instructor reports to the Program Manager and/or Executive Director.
The Program Instructor will be under direction to teach and instruct pupils in grades 6 through 8 in middle
school academic S.T.E.M. subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and other educational skill
areas with the use of technology; to plan, develop, organize and conduct a comprehensive educational program for
middle school level pupils; to assist middle school level pupils in making appropriate life style adjustments
regarding the importance of an education, and in the determination of math, science, and technology choices; and
to do other related functions as well.

ADVANTAGES FOR WORKING/INTERNING WITH GENERATION HOPE LAPTOP PROGRAM
The advantages of the program include valuable experience in instructional school settings, an inside look into
the educational environment not otherwise available for non-education majors and non-seniors education majors in
particular, a touch screen, waterproof laptop for personal and work use, possible educational training opportunities,
Travel opportunities (Last year included Dallas Mavericks Tickets and State Math and Science Competitions in
Houston), comfortable working environment, flexible hours, opportunity for paid summer employment
(College4Kids Program), opportunities to work with partnered organizations, i.e., Tarrant County Credit Union,
Chesapeake Energy, Fort Worth Sister Cities International, Lockheed Martin, etc.
Civic Literacy Program (TCU): Students who participate in the Civic Literacy Program with TCU will still
operate as Program Instructors for the organization with all of the same essential functions as non “interns.” Civic
Literacy Interns are required to spend at least approximately 6 hours per week (3 hours per class period) in
preparation. This is based on an honors system but will be investigated in team meetings that occur once to twice
per month. It is required that students hired, through work-study or Civic Literacy, be employed for one calendar
year (employment – May) since the student will literally be interfacing with youth in a functional school
environment (Fall and Spring). For example: if student is hired in August, student must remain employed until the
end of the organizational calendar school year in at the end of May. Students may receive POSC 40960: Civic
Literacy Internship credit for both Fall and Spring semesters (6 hours) provided that you meet all requirements for

QUALIFICATIONS & DUTIES
- Must be able to pass Crowley, Everman, and Fort Worth ISD background check.
- Must possess a 2.75 GPA minimum and be of sophomore status of higher (freshman applicants not admitted at this
time)
- Experience in working with childhood/ middle-school aged youth.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the social and emotional development of
students.
- Be able to emphasis on language development and emergent literacy skills of middle school aged children.
- Must demonstrate the ability to support the social and emotional development of children.
- Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving that is appropriate.
- Participate in team planning sessions with project staff.
- Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information.
- Work with the Program Instructor to provide comprehensive curriculum.
- Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child’s family and encourages their involvement in
the program.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Generation Hope Executive Director.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the children and program.
