2015 PROGRAMS




Ta r ge t I …Ed uc a tio na l Enr ic hm e nt
ASCEND (Achievement, Self-Awareness,
Communication, Engagement, Networking
and Developmental Skills). This program is
designed to motivate, engage and assist high
school students in reaching their maximum
potential. The program provides high school
students an opportunity to achieve academic
enrichment and life skills training to sup- port
their journey to college or vocational
employment. The program supports an
opportunity for Delta Chi Omega Chapter to
develop partnership with the Evanston
Township High School students and staff and
members of the divine nine Greek
organizations.

Dreams Delivered Prom Boutique. In
partnership with the Woman’s Club of
Evanston, this initiative provides services to
junior and senior high school young ladies
who are at- tending prom, regardless of their
financial situation.

Soup Kitchen. Members of Delta Chi Omega
Chapter pre- pare and serve meals for the needy
and homeless at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in
Evanston, IL.

One Million Backpacks Program adopts a
grade level and provides backpacks and some
school supplies to an Evanston Elementary
school level (K-3). The appointed school
represents a student population with the
biggest need.
Historically Black Colleges and Universities
(HBCUs) are a priority as Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc. launches Think HBCU to
highlight the contributions of HBCUs to the
sorority and society. Through education,
engagement and advocacy, they are showcased
as a critical venue for moving students to and
through college.


Family Seasonal Wraps is a program where in
the months of September/October, Delta Chi
Omega Chapter members collect and donate
hats, gloves, socks, coats, sweaters and other
seasonal wraps for families in need. Members
on a monthly basis collect and donate

JBFC Service Project. Janada Batchelor
Foundation for Children is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to alleviating
extreme poverty throughout East Africa. This is
accomplished through building self-sustaining
holistic care campuses, which primarily serve
orphaned and street girls; providing them with
refuge, nutrition, education, healthcare and
hope for a new life. Delta Chi Omega Chapter
makes a donation to support the planting of
trees in a village.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.
Members of Delta Chi Omega Chapter prepare
and serve meals for the needy and homeless at
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Evanston.

Pink Goes Red is a partnership with the
American Heart Association and the Chicago
Athletic Club—Evanston to promote awareness
of heart disease in women.
Ta r ge t I II … Fam ily Stre ng the ning
Dine on Us. – This program helps children get
nut riti ous and easy-to-prepare meals to carry
them through the week- end. Each Friday,
backpacks of nutritional food for five children
are prepared and delivered to a designated
school.
Acts of Green. Members of Delta Chi Omega
Chapter take a pledge to change at least one
habit or behavior to promote environmental
sustainability. A commitment is made for self
and/or family to do at least one green act
throughout the year. These behavior changes
and education encourage recycling, litter
prevention and waste management.
Chi Omega Chapter collect their old or nonreusable clothing for recy- cle. These items
are valued at an estimated 10¢ per pound.
The proceeds from clothing recycling are
donated to a selected organization.
Education. This program supports the
registration efforts of the institute at the
conference on Sunday, June 7, 2015. The 2015
conference addresses mental health disease
and suicide in the African American
community.

AKA 1908 Playground Program is done in
conjunction with the City of Evanston to clean
one park in May. This is done to ensure
children have a safe and inviting place to
play. We join in the efforts of our other Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. chapters to
Restore, Refresh and Renew 1,908 existing
community and school playgrounds.
 Textile Recycle Program. Members of Delta

In Our Own Words is a traveling awareness
exhibit to generate awareness and support for
Alzheimer’s programming and research.
Alzheimer’s disease is one of the fastest growing health challenges among African
Americans.
