CEPO Meeting
Tuesday, May 12th, 2015
@ Green Mill, Blaine
Welcome & Introductions
Attendees: Mark, Kelly, Michelle, Teri, Amy, Kris, Heather, Sara, Janelle, Anne
THANK YOU to Kris Cardille and Amy Grundtner for all their hard work and dedication over
the past 5-6 years! We will miss you!!!
Treasurer’s Report – Amy Grundtner
 Reports on page 3-4
 Expenditure Requests: Kindergarten subscription to StarFall for $270 – approved. Decided to
add to allocated funds since we get the request and approve it each year.
Site Council Update – Kelly Border and Michelle Koch
 Reports on page 5-6
Principal’s Report – Kathy Kaiser
 Report on page 7-8
Ongoing Fundraisers
 Box Tops & Country Hearth Loaves 4 Learning – Anne Ballard
o Report on page 9
o Giving away the Target gift card brought in about twice as many Box Tops so we will do
that again in May.
o Asked to put a collection box in the library and the staff are checking with the manager
o Asked about putting a collection box at Cub Foods and they want General Mills to
provide it. GM does not have these anymore so the alternatives are to find some extra
ones that other schools may have OR make our own from coordinator materials.
o Tyson Chicken A+ has had a slow uptake – not many received.
o Country Hearth Loaves for Learning has picked up better.
o Do we want to contact Schwan’s for their fundraiser? It works like Target where a
percentage of the purchase go to the school if the code is entered on the order on the
website. YES!
o To encourage families to collect items over the summer, we approved having an extra
prize in September and will promote it at the end of the school year.
 Scrip – Kelly
o No further orders. May choose to promote it at the end of the school year and will be
encouraging and promoting it more next year.
Completed Events
 April Family Fun Night
o Financial report on page 10
o We made nice sum and will have enough funds for the book replacements we
committed to earlier in the year and enough to start off the upcoming school year.
 Unknown amount earned from Orange Leaf but it was over $100 last year.
Janelle to follow up.
o Was the bucket drop worth it? Need facts to back it up but it felt like it was not.

o Feedback: The auction area was super busy and it was hard to get to and see
everything. The drawing at the end was messy and gathering payments harder. More
games are needed.
o Mark has a contact from the National Honor Society so we will be able to get volunteers
for our events from that group, as they are “always looking for hours”.
Staff Appreciation week
o It went very well! Not sure how we will replace Kris and Amy’s efforts though…
Upcoming Events
 5th Grade Party – Kris and Amy
o Ready to go and it will be awesome!
 Nickelodeon Universe Wristbands – Janelle
o Order forms out on 5/22, returned by 6/2, deliver on 6/3
o We buy them for $18.95 each and sell them for $28 each, for $9.05 each profit. This is
the same price as you can get them at Cub Foods, but we heard that Costco has a
much better deal.
Old Business: None
New Business:
 Meeting dates for summer – Decided to figure this out by email
 Updated mission statement
o New version: CEPO’s purpose is to connect parents and school staff in a partnership
that enhances the educational experience for all students of Centennial Elementary.
Our fundraising and volunteering efforts provide needed resources and memorable
events that strengthen our community.
o Voted upon and approved.
 Updates to by-laws needed
o Need to incorporate the new mission statement and the board member terms.
o Any other updates should be decided upon so that an updated document can be
included in the IRS paperwork due July 15.
o The board members will meet to work through this in June.
 Allocated Funds for 2015-2016 school year
o Meeting needed with Kathy; Kelly and Amy will coordinate.

Appreciation Breakfast and Entertainment that will be provided for them on Friday, May 8 at 8:15 a.m. in
the library.
Student Leadership Applications for 2015-16 will be available on Friday, May 8.
6. CEPO News (Michelle and Kelly)
They shared information about the recent Family Fun Night, next year’s plan, and general information.
7. Meeting Day/Dates for Next Year (See separate handout)
It was decided that although there might not be a need to have Site Council meetings in Oct, Dec. and
March next year, everyone would still reserve the date. Meetings would only be held those months if there
were pressing issues or topics.
8. MCA III and MAP testing Update (progress and timing of results to parents) Sara
Sara provided an update of testing guidelines. She also explained what “embargoed results” for MCA’s
mean.
9. Other issues/requests
Robyn mentioned that the Teacher Substitute Folders contains documents for teachers to fill out to provide
subs with detailed information. Is that necessary in addition to the sub notes that teachers are completing
already? Yes.
Could the Sub Folder forms be simpler? Yes. Kathy will review and condense it.
Barb Moody brought forward some suggestions and concerns:
What is the rule on students taking food/beverages out of the cafeteria? We decided that as long as the
food item doesn’t include any liquids, they can take it out. Look for a statement in the Morning
Announcements later this week.
Sometimes when students are brought outside for extra recess with their teachers, they are allowed to
participate in activities that are prohibited during recess periods. For example, playing on top of the
equipment, playing tag under/around the equipment, running down the slide on their feet. Can we all be
more consistent so the students aren’t confused and/or the paras aren’t disrespected? Yes. The
playground rules are the playground rules. Everyone should review them if they are not 100% sure what is
acceptable and unacceptable student behavior.
If the office sends a “time sensitive” email to staff/paras, it would be appreciated if someone could go find
the para to share the information because oftentimes they don’t have time to check emails until later in the
day or the next day. Yes.
Sub Paras: sometimes new sub paras really don’t have a clue what is expected. Either they don’t know
where things are, they don’t think they need to follow the schedule, or they are doing things that are just
unacceptable at our school (talking/texting on phones during work time, eating/drinking during lunchroom
supervision, etc.). Could the office develop a more thorough system so that all para subs clearly
understand the do’s and don’ts of their assignment. Yes. Sara is going to work on an outline of
expectations, and we will also look into what Rice Lake does to prepare their para subs.
The staff refrigerators/freezers are overcrowded, sometimes it’s Kids Club snacks that require refrigeration.
Can someone talk to Kids Club to see if they can store the student snacks elsewhere? Also, CTE staff who
store big containers of stuff or multiple bottles of liquids in a refrigerator are asked to be reasonable, and
only put one days’ worth in the fridge. Yes. Kathy will work with Kids Club, as well as communicating with
CTE staff on portion control in the fridges and freezers.
