Sketchbook rules:
1. Please do all assignments to the best of your ability.
2. Sketchbooks will be checked once a marking period.
3. You must complete at least 10 pages worth of work in your sketchbook over the course of a marking
period.
4. You must use the full space of the paper.
5. All drawings must be original, from your own reference or from observation.
6. Always try to draw from observation, or create your own reference/photos.
7. Materials are your choice and should relate to whatever project you’re working on in your sketchbook.
8. You should be working to achieve implied form, texture, and space. Detailed work is important.
9. Don’t be judgmental, I won’t! Your sketchbook is your place to practice and get better. If you don’t like
a drawing, don’t rip it out. Leave it there and see if you can do it better next time.
10. Do the required work in your sketchbook, but also take time to explore your own ideas. Use note
taking, journaling or collaging when needed.
I have read the statement above and I understand what is expected of my sketchbook assignments:

AP Drawing: The 10 Sketchbook Commandments
1.
Do not make “Perfect” drawings.
2.
Always fill the page you are working on. Do not make dinky little drawings in the
center of the page. Make every square inch count for something.
3.
Do not start something then abandon it. Go back later, change it, turn it into
something else. Being able to rescue a drawing is the sign of a truly creative
mind.
4.
Always finish what you start no matter how much you don’t like it. See it
through!
5.
Fill at least 10 pages a marking period!
6.
Don’t sign your name in the corner!
7.
Do not draw from published photographs or magazines in your sketchbook. This
is plagiarism. Draw from personal photographs. Draw from observationtranslate the 3 D world onto a flat surface. PRACTICE DRAWING!
8.
NO CUTE, PRETTY, PRECIOUS or ADORABLE images. This is COLLEGE
LEVEL, not a recreation program to make crafty pretty pictures to give to your
grandma. On that note- NO animal pictures, pictures of babies, anime style work
or cartoons.
9.
Don’t be boring- Challenge the people looking at your artwork. Make us think,
or feel something about your artwork.
10.
Take risks: draw something that you know is difficult for you to do. Use a
material that frustrates you. Do something really messy if you normally are
super neat. You get the point.
