Session 2 Art, History and SMSC This is Us! Part 2 Complete self-portrait and share how your family is unique. Session 3 SMSC, History and Geography My Family Tell others about your family’s story. Write speech bubble to create dynamic display. Session 4 SMSC, History and Art Ice Creams to Shields! A surprise visit from a knight in armour inspires the creation of shields, symbolising the interests, hobbies and family traditions. Hear about King John and Magna Carta. Use mirrors to study personal features such as eye and hair colour, skin tone. Mix paint to create correct shades of colour, to paint realistic self-portraits. Research a simple ‘family tree’, in the shape of an ice cream cone. Brief, simple history of Magna Carta. Discover family stories of places of origin/memories of childhood. Investigate location of UK and other countries worldwide. Write own address. Develop self-knowledge. Learn about own family’s culture and beliefs and those of classmates. Design symbols to represent self and use to illustrate shield as did Knights of old. Share breakfast together. Increase awareness that although unique, individuals share many common features, needs, hopes and aspirations and that we are all one nation. Families provide typical breakfasts, and children all eat together in a decorated classroom to celebrate diversity in the classroom. Children will: Develop tolerance, harmony and respect between different people groups. Write an invitation to the Breakfast Club. Write their own address. Begin to learn about the 4 nations of the UK, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Children will: Develop tolerance, harmony and respect between different people groups.
