Adopt-An-Element Baby Book
Directions: Choose an element to “adopt” and create a baby book full of information about
your element. Complete the “Adopt-An-Element” information sheet to gather the information
to create your book. You MUST follow the criteria below. BABY’S DUE DATE: Friday,
October 9, 2015.


Decorative cover including the name of your new baby
Page 2:Birth Certificate Including…









Full name of Element (Give your element a full name – first, middle and last)
Nickname of Element (Element’s Symbol)
Birth date (Date of Discovery – Many will only have a year and in that case you can create a month and day)
Birth Weight (Atomic Mass – measured in atomic mass units – amu, but you can use the first number before
the decimal as pounds and the number after the decimal as ounces)
Birth Length (Atomic Number – the real size would be the atomic radius, but you can pretend it is inches)
Race (Kingdom the Element Belongs to - Metal, nonmetal, or metalloid)
Gender (State of Matter at Room Temperature – Solid, Liquid, or Gas)
Place of Birth (Country of Discovery)
Attending Physician(s) (Name of Discoverer/s)

Draw a picture of your baby’s atomic structure

Overall, explain how your baby’s place on the Periodic Table affects their personality!
 Address the following:
o # of Valence Electrons – Describe how this may affect their personality
o Can your baby form an ion? – What type of ion? How this may affect their personality?
o Physical and Chemical Properties of your baby – minimum of 5
(Ex: boiling point, melting point, density, toxicity, reactivity, flammability etc.)

RESEARCH DIRECTIONS:
1. Use the Chromebooks to research and/or type your Baby Book. Be sure to share your work with
yourself or use Google Drive so you can access it from home!

3. Be sure to have a copy of your Baby Book with you in class on the due date…so plan ahead!
