Teacher Tidbits/Reading Report Fifth Grade’s Ms. Brodt wants to remind students that they should have at least 5 books read with book reports by the end of this grading period. Also, she says “Great Job” to the fifth graders on their Theme 1 projects. She enjoyed the presentations. The K-Team says to Kindergarten parents: We are having a great time in Kindergarten! Kindergarten is working on learning to count, write and identify numbers 0 100 in math. In reading, we are blending letter sounds together to make words. Please continue to check back packs daily and review school work with your child. And from Fifth Grade’s Ms. White: students must complete 7 book reports in the new nine weeks to meet their 25-book standard goal. Please encourage students to read over the Thanksgiving holiday and winter break. It is that time of year! We are looking for donations of Kleenex and hand sanitizer. We Won’t Let Up! November is the time of year to be thankful. We at Shaffer Elementary are thankful for our wonderful students! All classes are making progress. Recent data indicates that more than half of our Primary students are leading in Reading and Math. Students scored Proficient or Advanced in both areas. Intermediate students are working to improve their Reading and Math Skills. Fourth grade excelled in Reading Comprehension on their most recent 4 Sight Benchmark Tests. In Math, fourth grade excelled in Algebraic Concepts. Go mathematicians!!! Fifth grade students excelled in Reading and Analyzing Literature on their 4 Sight Benchmark Tests. Their best Math scores were in Numbers and Operations. Sixth Grade scored the highest in Reading Comprehension. Their highest Math scores were in Data Analysis and Probability. Keep up the good work! Shaffer’s Shopper-Friendly Holiday Shoppe will return the first week of December! All items are only $1 and there will be a great selection for all members of your family! Nurse’s Notes and News! In order for medication to be given in school, the following criteria MUST BE MET: 1) All prescription and over-thecounter medications such as Tylenol and cough syrup must have a written order by the student’s physician on file in the health office. 2) All medications must be in the original properly labeled container. Medication in baggies, non-marked containers will not be accepted. 3) A completed Medicine Permission form signed by the custodial parent/guardian must be on file in the health office. (see school nurse for forms) If you have any questions regarding the above information, please call your building school nurse. *Emergency Information* Please keep your emergency info up-to-date. If you have a change of phone number: cell, work or home, please communicate that change to the main office. If there is a change in emergency contacts, or an emergency contacts phone number – please notify the office ASAP. Second Grade Invites YOU! Please attend the Veteran’s Day Program November 10th at 1:30pm as we honor our veterans and show our patriotic pride. Second Grade is studying butterflies in science and learning about life cycles.
