Our
Mission
The
Lord's
Table has been serving the
homeless, and families who
are in need, for the past seven
years. A typical day consists
of men, women, young and
old, who all have the face of
our Lord Jesus Christ, and all
share in the blessings and
graces of "His Table."
Approximately 120 plates
daily, a total of 12,927 in 3
months, were served. God's
people are served hot meals,
Monday through
Friday
between 11:00 AM and Noon.
The Lord's Table works in
conjunction with programs
such as "GAIN" and "FSET"
to place personnel that are
trained in basic job skills, thus
helping to make them more
employable.
Our foundation of this
ministry is based on the
continuing help we receive
from the dedicated men and
women who volunteer. Those
currently serving in this
ministry are: The Burning
Bush, Church of the Valley,
Holy Family, Holy Innocents,
Our Lady of the Desert and
St. Joan of Arc. What's more,
those who come to help from
these community programs
have consequently changed
their lives for the better.
Everyone served at the Lord's
Table enjoys the hot meals
prepared by cooks who have
completed a 3-week Food
Preparation program at Victor
Valley College
In addition, all workers are
trained to treat all people
coming to the Lord's Table
with dignity and hospitality.
Another way we serve our
brothers and sisters in need is
through a food "give-away"
program held every third
Friday of the month. This
program
distributes
on
average two hundred and
twenty-five bags of groceries
each month. Our local County
of San Bemardino Food Bank
provides this food.
How is the Lord's Table
funded? Thanks to donations
from wonderful people and
organizations near and far.
Such donations include:
United Way, The Sisters of
Orange, The Diocese of San
Bemardino and our Local
Churches, Businesses and
private donations from the
people of our community.
We are very grateful for this
outpouring gift from the
community; however we
emphasize that we need these
ongoing contributions, week
after week, month after
month. With this continued
support, we will be able to
keep on helping, in a small
way, our brothers and sisters
in Christ.
The conception of The
Lord's Table...
My name is Dolores Zuniga,
mother
of four
grown
children, Philip 36, Michael
34, Felix 25 and Tracy 15.
Married to a loving husband
Feliciano Zuniga for 37 years.
It began in the fall of 1982; we
were forced to retreat from
Arizona due to a 100-year flood
that threatened the lives of my
family. We were rescued with
food, shelter and clothing from
United Way; Needless to say the
house was a loss, so we headed to
California to rebuild our lives.
With our health in mind we chose
the dry climate and smog free
town of Victorville. From 1984 to
present day, I began to help out at
my parish as a cook for parish
socials and local community
events. It was then I noticed the
need of helping the needy. Often
at my parish I was asked if I
knew about a place where
someone could get a bite to eat. I
prayed for it and I took matters
into my own hands. With the
grace of God, I began to cook
once a week using my own
resources, pot and pans. From
that point the demand to serve the
needy and the homeless became
so overwhelming that I found
myself cooking, serving and
cleaning 5 days a week. With the
support of my pastor, Rev.
Gerardo Mendoza we began to
receive small donations to cover
some of the expenses, but this
was not enough. I prayed to the
Lord for guidance and I
remember that United Way came
to my rescue once before.
Without hesitation, I presented
my case to them and applied for a
Fiesta!
.
grant. This in turn, opened the
doors for others to help us.
Such, as the Diocese of San
Bemardino, the Sisters of St.
Joseph,' and Churches United
in the High Desert. From our
humble beginnings of a few
dozen people served a day,
we now serve approximately
175 to 300 men, women and
children. And although there
are times that I have
sacrificed my own family in
order to help those in need,
my families, along with the
dedicated volunteers, have
shown
this
great
gift
worthwhile for the sake of
human kindness.
Fiesta!
The Feast of St. Joan of
Arc
celebrated
its
76th anniversary on May 31st.
Along with fan games and
entertainment,
various
ministries joined in to host an
assortment
of
food
refreshment. All proceed
collected will be donated to
the parish.
