Michigan Tech Increases Institutional Collaboration and
Maximizes ROI with Sponsored Research Module
KSS is currently working with Michigan Technological University to develop a new
module to complement KSS TechTracS® already robust functionality. This module,
the Sponsored Research Manager, is used to monitor and facilitate the research
proposal and funding process. Among its benefits are eliminating the need for
duplicate data entry and facilitating data sharing across multiple departments within
an organization. Developing this module is a major step in making KSS TechTracS ® a
truly comprehensive enterprise-wide knowledge management infrastructure capable
of managing the entire innovation lifecycle.
According to David Reed, VP for Research, “In any research enterprise, crossinstitutional and interdisciplinary collaboration maximizes creativity and return on
investment. The Sponsored Research
Manager facilitates this type of
collaboration.”
While representing the Tech Transfer Office
of MTU at the first annual users group
meeting in San Antonio, Jim Baker, Director
of Technology Partnerships discussed the
benefits of the Sponsored Research Manager.
According to Baker, MTU has increased data collection, including data from the
development office, through using the Sponsored Research Manager.
Additionally, MTU Tech Transfer staff plans to use the Sponsored Research Module to
continue to develop corporate gifts along with intellectual property.
In short, the tech transfer staff at MTU has welcomed the addition of the Sponsored
Research Manager to KSS TechTracS® as an integral part of the tech transfer office
accomplishing its mission to manage and promote technology clusters in the state of
Michigan.
