The ‘Becoming A Teacher Assignment’: A Reflective Personal Review Essay This prose account should summarise and reflect on your journey towards becoming a teacher this year. Consider your starting point and the professional distance which you have travelled whilst completing your PGCE course. You will need to: -1- Explain what you have learnt about yourself as a learner and teacher of your subject, and your achievement of the QTS Standards. You should: - be reflective and self-critical - draw appropriate, supportable conclusions - use subject specific and more general literature - make clear links to the QTS Progress file and standards - present your account coherently in a written form, in a tidy legible manner - include references and bibliography in the style required in the course handbook The word limit (1500 words) is fairly restricted, but you could, for example: Begin with a short statement of what attracts you to teaching and the unique contribution of your subject to teaching and learning Reflect on your learning and achievement with regard to each of the three themes, in turn, of the QTS Standards. 1. Professional attributes (relationships and communication, policies and duties, and self-development) 2. Professional knowledge/understanding (teaching , learning, assessment and monitoring strategies, subject and curriculum knowledge, literacy, numeracy and ICT, achievement and diversity, health and well being) 3.1 Professional skills (plan, teach, assess, feedback, review, manage learning – safely, work in teams) Conclude with a paragraph or two about your strengths (2 or 3) as you approach the end of the course and areas in which you would benefit from further development (2 or 3). If it has already been drafted you could draw on your Career Entry and Development Profile for this process. The word length for this part of the assignment is 1500 words.
