Through a Photo Taking Competition, briefings by experts locally and the exchange between youngsters in Hong Kong and Shanghai on green buildings, and personally experiencing the pavilions set up by different countries at World Expo 2010 on architectural breakthroughs, Hong Kong youngsters will be more acquainted with how to construct a sustainable urban environment. “Love of the Earth 2010 - Build your Dream” theme project includes the following activities: 1. “Love of the Earth 2010 – Build your Dream” Photo Taking Competition Application Period: 1st January, 2010 to 7th March, 2010 2. “Love of the Earth 2010 – Build your Dream” Opening Ceremony Date : 3rd April, 2010 Venue: Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza 3. Hong Kong Education Camp Date : 3rd to 4th April, 2010 (2 days 1 night) Number of participants: 40 (Participants are the awardees selected from the Photo Taking Competition) 4. Each participant can submit up to 3 photos, yet only 1 submitted photo will be awarded. 2. Both black and white and colour photos can be submitted. 3. All photos must be in JPEG format with file size more than 1MB but less than 3MB. Participants should submit the application form together with the photo via email to loe2010@sjc.org.hk. 4. The file name of the photo should include the participant’s name and photo caption. For example, Chan Tai Man David_IFC in the dawn.jpg. 5. All participants should submit both the application form and the photo before 11:59pm on 7th March, 2010. All late submissions will be disqualified. The submission deadline is based on time of receipt of the email. 6. All participants should receive a confirmatory email from Sha Tin Junior Chamber after the submission of photo(s) by email. 7. All photos should be submitted together with photo caption and a photo summary of no more than 70 words. Participants who do not submit the photo summary are disqualified. 8. Sha Tin Junior Chamber values intellectual property. All photos submitted should be the participant’s own work. 9. Sha Tin Junior Chamber has the full and final authority to decide the list of awardees. No participant shall have any authority to deny the final decision of the judging panel. Awards 1. The 40 most outstanding participants in this photo competition will be selected to participate in Hong Kong Education Camp for FREE. (Each selected participant has to pay HK$50 to show his or her commitment to participate in the Hong Kong Education Camp. All selected participants joining Hong Kong Education Camp will be awarded with Certificate of Excellence. Sha Tin Junior Chamber reserves the right to display the selected photos at “Love of the Earth 2010 – Build your Dream” Opening Ceremony. 3. The 10 most outstanding participants will be selected to join Shanghai Exchange Tour in July/August 2010 for FREE. This exchange tour includes the visit to Shanghai World Expo and exchange activities with Shanghai students. The organiser will cover the costs of the exchange activities, transportation, accommodation and catering. All selected participants have to pay HK$500 to show their commitment to participate in the Shanghai Exchange Tour. This commitment fee is only refundable if the project concludes with zero-deficit. All selected participants should be responsible to cover their own travel insurance and out of pocket expenses. 4. Winners may have a chance to win the products given by sponsors. The award details will be announced on “Love of the Earth” website. Judging Criteria 1. The judging panel includes architect from Hong Kong Institute of Architects, environmental expert, President of Junior Chamber International Hong Kong, and representatives from Hong Kong Film Art Association and Shatin District Secondary School Heads Association. The Photo Taking Competition’s results will be announced in March. All selected participants will be notified in March and arranged to take part in Hong Kong Education Camp to be held from 3rd April to 4th April, 2010. 2. The judging panel will evaluate participants’ photos based on how the Hong Kong building(s) captured in the photo contributes to sustainable development. Next, the judges will evaluate the photography technique, photo design and photo impression.
