THANK YOU
Thank you to our Student Council for putting together a fantastic Haunted House in our gym on
Friday, October 29th. I think the students were very frightened and had a lot of fun going
through and receiving treats at the end for being so brave.
Thank you also to Emma Hotte and Sterling Trosky for organizing a school Halloween colouring
contest with prizes for the winners from each grade and treats for everyone!!
HOME READING
Thank you to Georgia Trosky, Katrina Mintenko, Julie Moore, Jamie Pritchard, Laurie Gray and
Amanda Downey for coming to the school and helping with our Home Reading program on
Monday, November 1st and 8th.
Please call the school at 250-628-3551 if you would like to help with the Home Reading
program on Monday mornings from 8:45am-9:15am. We would like to have 2 volunteers for
each classroom.
SHUTTER SHACK PHOTO RETAKES… 
Shutter Shack will be holding a retake session for any families wishing to have their
childs school photos retaken. The session will take place at Shutter Shack on Saturday,
November 13th between 9:00am and 12:00pm.
PURDY’S CHOCOLATES SCHOOL FUNDRAISER
We have selected to sell from the Purdy’s Chocolates Catalogue as part of the school fundraising for
our Swim Program this year. Extra copies of the catalogue can be located at the school office if
needed. Cheques should be made payable to Port Edward School PAC. The shipping cost is
included in the price already, and does not need to be added in.
Please return the order forms and money to the school by Monday, November 15, 2010.

POPCORN DAY
We will be holding our next Popcorn sale at recess on Friday, November 19th to raise money
for our 6 Bee Store!! We are looking for parent/guardian volunteers to help in the morning to pop
and bag the popcorn so that we are ready by recess time. Contact the school or come by at 9:00
am on Friday, November 19th.
Student’s can purchase a bag of popcorn for .50 cents.
VOLLEYBALL
The Volleyball Play Day took place at Westview Elementary School on Saturday, November 6th.
Congratulations to Sterling, Hanna, Steven, Rochelle, Michael, Emily H.,
and Alaura who made our school proud!!
Thank you to Mrs. Cox-Rogers for coaching our team this year.
LESTER CENTRE OF THE ARTS…..
On Friday, November 26th all the students will be traveling by bus to the Lester Centre for a
performance by the Story Theatre Company in PINOCCHIO. DO NOT BE LATE TO SCHOOL
AS THE BUSES DEPART AT 8:45 AM.

BC CONFEDERATION OF PARENT ADVISORY COUNCILS
The BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils is holding its Fall Conference November
12-14, 2010 at the Delta Burnaby Hotel and Conference Centre in Burnaby, BC. This is a great
opportunity for all parents.
Parents as Partners: A Community of Leaders and Learners is the theme of the conference
which will have a wide variety of workshops and sessions for everyone. The Friday keynote is
Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond, the BC Representative for Children and Youth. Saturday morning’s
keynote is the Honourable George Abbott, Minister of Education, and Sunday morning’s keynote
is Her Honour Gwendolyn Point.
Other speakers include: Mike Winsemann from BCCAT; John Noonan, Parliamentarian;
Bernadette Woit; as well as representatives from the Ministry of Education speaking on
Personalized Learning and the Parent’s Role.
Workshops include:

School Emergency Preparedness – is your school prepared? Make sure your parents know what
they need to do
Supporting Literacy Learning in Families – an engaging and interactive workshop on extending
literacy
Internet Awareness for Parents – what every parent should know about today’s online
experience

Working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Families – appreciate diversity and create a

parents of young girls

GARY ANAKA
Brain-based learning facilitator, Gary Anaka, will be presenting two FREE back-to-back
informative sessions at the Lester Centre of the Arts on Saturday, November 13th. The
morning session “How to Grow a Child’s Brain” will take place at 9am to Noon. Discover how to
nourish young brains, to avoid “brain killers” and how to “brain smart” your kids. The afternoon
session will be from 12:30pm to 3:00pm. You will learn to exercise your brain, prevent cognitive
decline and dozens of brain boosting activities for life. Please bring a brown bag lunch, pen,
paper and your brain!
CLOTHING
As the weather gets colder, please ensure that your child has a warm coat, proper footwear for
the weather, a hat and gloves so that they can play outside as the weather permits and also a
change of clothing.
