Course Description:
This is an introductory course in general business terminology and in understanding the
agencies, methods, functions and practices of modern businesses with their resultant
effects on the economic and social life of the nation.

SCF Withdrawal Policy:
In accordance with State College of Florida policy as stated in the college catalog,
students may withdraw from any course or all courses without academic penalty of a WF
by the withdraw deadline as listed in the State College of Florida academic calendar. This
semester the date is October 25th. The student must take the responsibility for initiating
the withdrawal procedure. Students are strongly encouraged to talk with their instructor
first before taking any withdrawal action. In addition, students should note that faculty
may also withdraw students for violating policies, procedures or conditions of the class,
as outlined in individual class syllabi, and such action could affect financial aid
eligibility.
Class Withdrawal Policy:
Any student who is absent and does not complete the online assignments and other course
requirements for a consecutive two-week period, at any time during the term, will be
withdrawn from class by the instructor.
Make-up Exam Policy:
Make-ups will only be allowed in extreme circumstances and with instructor’s approval.
Exams cannot be completed after final exam’s week. All work is to be completed by the
deadlines stated in the Class Calendar.
Case Study Assignments:
The chapter case study questions/forum discussions, your business plan, and mid-term
and final exams are all part of your final grade in the class. The assigned Case Studies
are located in Angel (see file). Answers to the questions should be posted in each week’s
discussion forum.
Business Plan Project:
This is either a group or individual assignment designed to familiarize the student with all
aspects of starting a company, as well as creating growth in an existing company. This
project is also calculated to allow the students to interact in a working group
environment. This is typical of the management techniques used in businesses and is a
trend that will likely continue. The Business Plan is due to be completed by
November 25th, (Any missed work cannot be made up). Remember it is when I
receive your work, not when you send it.

No single component of the class can be eliminated and/or substituted by scores from any
of the other two. The final grade is a combination of scores on all components.

100 – 90 A
89 – 80 B
79 – 70 C
69 – 60 D
59 – and below F
Statement on Plagiarism:
Plagiarism is the use of ideas, facts, opinions, illustrative material, data, direct or indirect
wording of another scholar and/or writer-professional or student, without giving proper
credit. Expulsion, suspension or any lesser penalty may be imposed for Plagiarism.
