Course Title: Emergency Medical Technician

Course Description: Preparation for certification as an Emergency Medical Technician

(EMT) Lab required.

Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

1. Apply operational principles in out-of-hospital environments.

2. Demonstrate life saving care to patients at the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level.

3. Display professional and ethical behaviors expected of emergency personnel.

4. Demonstrate a working knowledge of clinical information and related topics relevant to the practice of pre-hospital emergency medical care of the EMT-Basic level.

5. Demonstrate the ability to competently perform all applicable skills; and exhibit attitudes and behavior consistent with the ethics and professionalism expected of the EMT-Basic.

The EMT- Basic curriculum is based on the Department of Transportation National

Patient Assessment Management – Trauma

Patient Assessment Management – Medical

Cardiac Arrest Management/AED

Spinal Immobilization (Seated Patient)

Spinal Immobilization (Supine Patient)

Bag-Valve-Mask Apneic Patient with a Pulse

Long Bone Fracture Immobilization

Joint Dislocation Immobilization

Traction Splinting

Bleeding Control/Shock Management

Upper Airway Adjuncts and Suction

Mouth-to Mask with Supplemental Oxygen

Supplemental Oxygen Administration

Vital Signs

Medication Assist
