Welcome to your third speech!
Demonstration Speech
The purpose of this speech is to show your audience how to do something. In the most interesting
demonstration speeches, speakers teach their audience members a new skill or give them greater
appreciation of an existing skill. In this speech, you will need to demonstrate a process. This can
include demonstrating how to make something, how something works, or how something is done.
Remember, your demonstration needs to be respectful and school-appropriate. You may not use
food.
Here is what you need to do:
1. Select a unique topic. Look at your Interest Inventory (numbers 2,3,5,8, and 15).
2. Select appropriate tools to aid in your demonstrate.
3. Write an outline and turn this in on the due date: ______________________________. Be sure to
include and underline 10 transitions!
4. Practice.
When you give your speech, follow this format:
I. Introduction
A. Get your audience’s attention.
B. Give your audience a reason to listen.
C. Get your audience to trust you.
D. Give your audience the main idea.

Extra information: You may use one index card. You need to write your own central idea. Set-up
time is strictly set to two minutes.

I. Introduction
A. I never liked jelly as a child; however, I now realize its importance. (Story)
B. Everyone needs to eat lunch, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are perfect.
C. I have been making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches since I was three.
D. Today, I will demonstrate the four steps to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich: bread, peanut
butter, jelly, and serving.
TRANSITION: Now I will show you the steps to make a tasty peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
II. Body
A. The first step is bread.
1. At this point, choose your favorite bread.
2. Set two slices on the plate.
B. The second step is peanut butter.
1. Use a butter knife.
2. Simultaneously, spread the peanut butter on one side of one slice of the bread.
C. The third step is jelly.
1. Next, clean the butter knife.
2. Immediately, spread the jelly on one side of the other slice of bread.
D. The fourth and final step is serving.
1. Assemble the two slices.
2. Naturally, serve on a plate with chips.
III. Conclusion
A. In conclusion . . .
B. I have shown you the four steps to making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich: bread, peanut butter,
jelly, and serving.
C. Even though I didn’t like jelly as a child, I now realize its importance. Therefore, always remember that
making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a quick and tasty lunch.

Demonstration Speech Critique
This essay starts with a critical review of your demonstration speech.
First Half
The first thing you need to do is to think about your performance. Then after reviewing my
comments on your grade sheet, I would like you to write a critique of your “performance.” Tell me
how you feel you did. I want you took at both the content and your delivery.
Second Half
The second thing you need to do is to think about your peers in class. Has anyone surprised you?
What have you learned from someone? Whom do you want to emulate?
Length requirement: 1 page
Extra information: You must use MLA format. You may use “I.”
