Use studyguide to identify figurative language and demonstrate reading comprehension. Tuesday 1.02-1.04, 2.02, 3.02, 5.01, 5.02, 6.01, 6.02 Students identify articles and adjectives as well as identify author’s use of characterization, figurative language, theme, and conflict in Touching Spirit Bear. Wednesday 1.02-1.04, 2.02, 3.02, 5.01, 5.02 Thursday 1.02-1.04, 2.02, 3.02, 5.01, 5.02 Friday 1.02-1.04, 2.02, 3.02, 5.01, 5.02 Students will compare/contrast novel setting to Hatteras Island, and continue to identify the author’s use of characterization, figurative language, theme and conflict in Touching Spirit Bear. Students will contrast the culture of Native American Circle Justice and American Justice system as they continue to explore characterization, figurative language, theme and conflict in Touching Spirit Bear. Students will discuss cause and effect as well as literary elements throughout Touching Spirit Bear. Use of brianpop.com to introduce articles and adjectives Journal: Have you experienced a time of physical or emotional exhaustion? Journal: Provide a definition and example of justice. Is physically hurting someone ever justified? Explain. Read ch. 4-6 of Touching Spirit Bear identifying similarities and differences to Hatters landscape and physical exhaustion of protagonist in survival of nature/elements of the outdoors. -Read ch. 7-9 using venn diagram to compare and contrast Circle Justice to American Justice -Use studyguide to continue to examine literary elements throughout the novel. Journal: Identify figurative language in the following quote, and explain how it relates to Cole: “Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal. With the intent of throwing it at someone else, you are the one who gets burned.” Buddha Read ch. 10-12 and identify causes and effects of Cole Mathew’s crime and punishment. Continue to discuss literary elements throughout the novel.
