Concepts of Print Individual Checklist This checklist is to be used to help the teacher determine which of the concepts of print a student has under control and which concepts still need work. The goal is for the student to master the concepts of print by the end of the second nine weeks of first grade. Book concepts- title page Which page do we read first? Directionality- beginning of text Where does it tell the story? Which way do we go when we’re reading? Reading concepts- print carries the message Directionality- left to right Where do we go when we get to the end of a line? Directionality- return sweep During reading, ask the child: Point to the words on the page as I read. Reading concepts- one to one correspondence After Reading, ask the child: Can you put your finger around a word? Word concept Can you find two words that are the same?
