Dear Counselor or Principal:
The Junior League of Pittsburgh, Inc. offers an annual scholarship to female graduates of Allegheny
County public and private high schools. This year, the League will award a scholarship in the amount of
One Thousand Five Hundred dollars ($1,500).
Eligibility Criteria
1. The 2012 candidates must have: At least one hundred (100) hours of verified volunteer service
during high school; and
2. A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (B) or better.
The scholarship award must be used for continuing education at an accredited college or university during
the 2012-2013 academic year.
Application Information
Enclosed is information about the scholarship, the criteria for applicant consideration and the application.
Please duplicate this information as needed and encourage qualified students to apply. There is no limit to
the number of scholarship applicants from each school. Only one recipient will be selected.
Applicants must submit the completed application, a transcript, a description of volunteer activities, letters
of verification of volunteer activities, and a copy of the applicant’s letter of acceptance to an accredited
college or university by April 13, 2012 to:

The winner will be announced to the media and asked to attend the Junior League of Pittsburgh
Annual Meeting on May 30, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. for presentation of the scholarship. Her parents or
guardians will also be invited to attend.

Mission Statement
The Junior League of Pittsburgh, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting

The Junior League of Pittsburgh reaches out to young women of all races, creeds, religions or
national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.
The Junior League of Pittsburgh actively improves our community by researching, initiating, and
funding projects in the areas of the arts, aging, health, women, and children. The Junior League
of Pittsburgh is women leading by example since 1922.
2012 Scholarship Criteria
Underlined items must be submitted with the completed scholarship application. Applications
that are incomplete will not be considered.
1. Applicant must be a female graduating from an Allegheny County public or private high
school in the spring of 2012.
2. Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (B) or better. A transcript must
be submitted with the application.
3. Applicant must have completed at least 100 hours of volunteer service during high school.
Volunteer service means service to the community through an organization or program and
does not include extra-curricular school activities. A letter(s) from the person(s) supervising
the volunteer activities verifying the hours must be provided with the application.
4. Applicant must submit an essay with the application describing how her volunteer work has
influenced her life and goals. This essay must be double-spaced and no more than two (2)
pages in length.
5. Scholarship award must be used for continuing education at an accredited college or
university during the 2012-2013 academic year. A copy of the applicant’s letter of
acceptance to an accredited college or university must be provided with the application.
6. Winner will be announced to the media.
7. Submit the completed application with essay, transcript, supervisor’s verification of volunteer
hours, and letter of college or university acceptance by April 13, 2012 to:
