A Gr8 START Partnership Project Initiative Nurturing Confident Kids The focus of this workshop will be for staff to learn Circle of Security Parenting© for their own personal family relationships. Excited? We are…check it out http://www.circleofsecurity.net/ while you wait… The essence of attachment is in the quality of the relationship. “Decades of university-based research have confirmed that secure children exhibit increased empathy, greater selfesteem, better relationships with parents and peers, enhanced school readiness, and an increased capacity to handle emotions more effectively when compared with children who are not secure.” (22 Nov 2010; http://www.circleofsecurity.net/ ) Circle of Security™ Parenting© Registered Parent Educator – Kylie O’Neill (One Chance at Childhood Coordinator – South East Region) together with Gr8 START Early Years Partnership and other agencies are offering an interactive program promoting the understanding of: Circle of Security™ Parenting© program. It is a newly developed DVD parent education program offering the core components of the evidence-based and internationally acclaimed COS® protocol. This 8-session group presents video examples of secure and problematic parent/child interaction, healthy options in caregiving, and animated graphics designed to clarify principles central to COS®. The 8 session group promotes the following skills: Understanding the theoretical foundation of the Circle of Security® Building a secure base/safe haven relationship with caregivers Shifting caregiver focus from behavior management to enhancing the quality of relationship Specific steps for building self-reflection in caregivers Use of video examples to support increased empathy in caregivers Offering new options to help caregivers manage emotions Step-by-step approaches for promoting secure attachment in children WHEN: Between July and November 2011 (Please refer to schedule of dates) WHERE: WHO: Various venues across the South East Region (Labrador, Logan, Beenleigh and Mermaid Beach). Staff who would like to be a participant in a parenting program. Some participants opinions regarding the program: 1. “I will be a better parent having done this course” 2. “Now I get it…we have to offer this to all parents & carers. It should be core” Please note, attendance in this program is not training for participants to professionally use the Circle of Security™ Parenting© materials or DVD with other families. Participants will learn Circle of Security™ Parenting© concepts which can enhance the experience of security in family life. If staff would like to run the Circle of Security™ Parenting© program with parents and carers they will need to complete the 4 day training with Circle of Security©.
