Syllabus, 2006/2007 AP Biology: Selected Topics Grading Information Instructor: Judith Nuño apnuno@gmail.com AP Biology Description of Activity Activity The AP Exam consists of both multiple choice questions and free response questions. Free response questions generally have several parts and require that you integrate information from various areas of chemistry. The unit tests will consist of multiple choice and free response questions from the chapters indicated in the Course Overview. There will be 10 unit tests. Tests The multiple choice questions must be submitted online on the Thinkwell website. The free response type questions may also be submitted online by typing your response in the space provided on the tests. However, for those that may be easier to write by hand, you must fax (866) 646-3816) or email (apnuno@gmail.com) your response by the deadline in order to receive full credit. Please be sure to include AP Bio in the subject line of the email or write your first and last name, AP Bio, and Mrs. Nuño on each page of the fax. Homework Virtual Lab Participation Thinkwell Exercises Midterm Exam Final Exam There will be 14 homework sets, and to get the full complement of points, you must complete at least 10 sets! These problem sets will be in multiple choice format, similar to those in the Thinkwell exercises and to those that will be on the unit tests. Virtual Lab activities will be available at Online Biology Labs (http://www.biologylab.awlonline.com/) and other online sites. Specific instructions on how to complete and submit virtual lab assignments will be posted in the Thinkwell Classroom. You will have a choice of labs and will need to complete at least 5 of them as well as a lab safety quiz and a summary lab assignment. Discussing concepts and ideas is a very important part of learning any subject but it is particularly important in an online environment. You will need to post questions and comments in the discussion board for the different chapters. You will receive 5 participation points per chapter for posting in the discussion board. You must participate in at least 10 chapter discussions but it is definitely beneficial for you to participate in all of them! Each section of the textbook has 4-12 questions associated with it. These questions are scored automatically and can be repeated up to three times. Although these exercises are not required to complete the course and not graded for the course grade, it is highly recommended that you work through them for extra practice. This exam will consist of 40 multiple choice questions from chapters 1—8 and 2 free response questions. This exam will consist of 80 multiple choice questions and 4 free response questions. This format and questions will be similar to those found on the AP Biology exam.
