Defense attorney Bob George gets 42 months in
money-laundering case

A judge sentenced a former longtime nemesis of federal prosecutors — defense attorney Robert “Bob” George
— to 42 months today for laundering drug money.
George, 57, of Westwood, also was hit with a $12,500 fine. He must self-surrender by Jan. 15 to the Bureau of
Prisons.
Under sentencing guidelines, George could have received up to 25 years from U.S. District Court Judge
Nathaniel M. Gorton.
“What were you thinking?” Gorton asked George, once one of the state’s most prominent attorneys, at the
sentencing today. “It is a sad day for the legal profession, bench and bar alike.”
A jury convicted the father of three in June of conspiring with a client secretly working for the Drug
Enforcement Agency to launder nearly a quarter-million dollars in drug proceeds, and of structuring bank
transactions to evade reporting requirements — all for $20,000 prosecutors said George profited from the
scheme.
“It never happened and it’s as ridiculous as it seems,” George told the court. “I am not a gatekeeper for drug
cartels.”
Now suspended from practicing law, George has in the past represented clients including former New England
Mafia godfather Francis “Cadillac Frank” Salemme and Christopher McCowen, the Cape Cod garbage collector
convicted of the 2002 rape and murder of fashion writer Christa Worthington.
The Herald reported Monday that Gorton had been inundated with dozens of letters of support from George’s
family and friends.

Sad day for the leagal community is an understatement, A big time lawyer gets a small slap on the wrist and
minor fine. The fine should have at least covered the cost of the investigation and trial. The Judge asked George
"What were you thinking" I ask the judge the same question regarding sentencing. The legal system in this
country sucks and is corrupt beyond belief.

My brother was involved in a bad accident years ago and was represented by one of "Mass's Prominent Lawyer"
I took my brother to his first visit to the Land Shark and this man points out the window and says, and I quote,
"Do you see that Porsche over there? I drive that because I am great a what I do, I sue companies and I get big
settlements!" The initial suit was for 8 million dollars. My poor brother after 4 years of constantly calling this
lawyer, ended up with an out of court settlement of 28k which the mouthpiece got 1/3 of.

Finneran was disbarred (that means lost his license to practice) and most recently lost his appeal to get his
pension...
It wasn't an overnight process. Legal processes have to take place. Are you expecting that he would practice law
from Federal Prison while his license is suspended??? What's your complaint?

Lawyers! There's one topic that brings all of us together! Thumbs up to those who usually get thumbs down &
vice versa. I think another scam going on involves elder law attorneys who take advantage of desperate familes
who didn't have real estate signed over to them by their parents, or surving parent in a Nursing Home, and
stringing them along with false hope. I think something is going to blow up along those lines, sooner
(Preferably) or later. May all lawyers who don't return phone calls & take advantage of the vulnerable out there,
rot & burn in hell for eternity.
