English 111B Final Exam Review 2015 Loewen 1. Macbeth You will be asked to write a theme-based piece of writing, using the criteria below. You need to be familiar with the following themes as ONE of them will be on the exam: Kingship vs. tyranny Appearance vs. reality Ambition Gender Add Connect the given theme to the text of Macbeth. What techniques does Shakespeare use to enhance this theme in the text? Provide indirect evidence from the text; that is, you are expected to refer to incidents/evidence/techniques used by Shakespeare. Your connection must be insightful and show that you are thinking deeply about your reading and what we learned about in class. Connect You must make an additional connection between the theme and something else. Your connection should show your understanding of how the theme works and that it is universal. You must use well-chosen, relevant examples (at least 2) from Macbeth to make EITHER a text-to-text, text-to-self, or text-to world connection.
