Welcome and Introductions
 A special welcome to Erica Luuga, a new provider in Indiana!
What’s New?
o Social Thinking Training – Stephen Liebsch Stephen went to a training done by Michelle Garcia
Winner. He recommends the training to others. Here is the website if you would like more
information about the topic. http://www.socialthinking.com/
o DSP Regional Conference – Jennifer Howlett Jennifer reported that June 26 – 27 will be the first
DSP Conference in the Bloomington area. Options, Stone Belt and Christole are partnering to
provide a 2-day educational and networking opportunity for DSP’s. The theme is “Spa” and
many of the activities will be focused on reducing stress.
o Association for Supervision and Training (ASTD) Conference – Jennifer Howlett Jennifer will be
going to the ASTD Conference this year. She recommends that others join the organization as it
is the primary professional development organization for trainers. More information can be
found at http://www.astd.org
Your Guidance
 Prioritizing Training Topics – Outreach developed a grid of their training topics by INTrain
categories ( Assistive Supports & Therapies, Behavioral Supports, Health and Safety, Leadership, Life Span
Development, Mental Health, Person Centered Planning/Individualized Support Plan, Quality Assurance/Quality
Improvement and Self-determination) was put up so all could view it. We went through each section
and prioritized trainings on a scale of 1-3 with 1 being top priority. We also generated
additional training topic suggestions and rated them. CCLC will add the items already in the
DDINfoSource library to the grid. INTrain will make this a standing item on the Agenda each
month and INTrain members should encourage everyone in the field to make suggestions for
training topics. Currently there is a suggestion email on the DDINfoSource website and as a part
of the INTrain INput survey each month.
o QMRP Training in Indiana – An INTrain Input respondent asked if we would discuss training for
QMRP’s in Indiana. IPAS offers QMRP-Designee training for individuals who work in nursing
home that have more than 3 individuals with DD living there. See
http://www.in.gov/ipas/index.htm for more information on their training. The group did not
know of other training in Indiana. There is a National QMRP Association that has developed
Standards, a Code of Ethics, and training materials for QMRP’s. Their website is
http://www.qmrp.org/ . The training that they are using is the same basic material (updated
1
and adapted) that we purchased from Mary Mercer at the North Dakota Center for Persons
with Disabilities for Indiana DSP’s. Continue the discussion at the February meeting
o INTrain Work Plan – Tabled until February
o Recommendations to DDRS o Begin to look at training for QMRP’s in Indiana
o Continue the development of a system to gather information about needed training
topics and ways to prioritize them
New Items
INTrain INput December 2008 This month there was 1 response. The person raised the point that they would like INTrain to
return to a more statewide perspective and not focus so much on the DSP Initiative. Also
mentioned was the idea that as a group we need to revisit our Work Plan more frequently and
track our progress accordingly. Finally this individual requested that we discuss QMRP training.
Reminder to All INTrain Members! If you cannot attend the meeting please give us your
input by using the Survey Monkey website. The address is always the same:

will be part of Outreach's routine training schedule.
2. Related training programs are under development such as "Recognizing Change in Status",

trainings available on-line.
7. Outreach has transitioned to an electronic system for registration for training programs.
"Event Scheduler" is part of CORM.
8. Exploring ways of providing information and answer questions possibly through conference
calls for example, "Ask a Behavior Specialist, or Dietitian...". Questions would be submitted in
advance and then answered on a conference call so others could benefit as well. Also looking at

using Breeze technology for this as well. Would also like to do "video fact sheets" in some
similar way.
