Brigham Young University, Teaching Assistant, Marriott School of Management,
1986-87. Taught two breakout sections.
Courses Taught:
Integrated Supply Chain Management. Course presents a framework for designing and
managing competitive supply chains. Considers driving forces, foundation elements, and
competitive impacts of supply chain management. Special emphasis on the integrating
mechanisms. Taught as both senior-level and MBA elective.
International Business. Undergraduate and graduate course in international business
management. Focus is on the design and management of global operations/strategies.
Emphasizes the management of value-chain activities in a global competitive setting.
Business issues in diverse geographic regions explored and compared.
International Management. Executive masters course designed to provide a brief, but
foundational background on doing business internationally. The course emphasizes
integrated decision making in a global environment and looks at the impact of compatibility,
configuration, coordination, and control issues on each of the major functional areas. Also
looks at keys issues involved in managing an expatriate assignment.
Logistics Management. Undergraduate and graduate course designed to introduce
students to the complex and dynamic arena of logistics decision making. Focus is on
managing inventory, warehousing, and transportation activities involved in moving product
from point of raw material to the final consumer. Special attention is paid to order fulfillment,
automatic replenishment, and lean logistics systems.
Purchasing and Supply Management. Undergraduate and graduate course designed to
introduce students to the dynamic and evolving arena of purchasing decision making. Focus
is on developing a world-class supply base through selection, certification, and development
activities. Special attention is paid to the purchasing process, the supply environment, and
value-addition strategies.
2
Management in Europe. Offered through the overseas study program, this course
consists of two major portions--an intensive on-campus seminar designed to familiarize
students with the challenges of value-addition in a global environment and a series of plant
tours throughout Northern and Western Europe.
Management in Latin America. Offered through the overseas study program, this course
consists of in-class and field study experience to help students gain an understanding of the
historical, cultural, and economic environments businesses operate in throughout Latin
America. Students become familiar with the challenges of value-addition in a global
environment via a series of plant tours throughout Latin America.
Manufacturing Strategy.
Course integrates production management into strategic
planning, implementation, and control. Focus is on the development of a sustainable
competitive advantage through manufacturing excellence. Senior-level, capstone casebased course for operations majors.
Materials and Logistics Strategy. Comprehensive case analysis and problem solving.
Integrates purchasing, manufacturing, and physical distribution management within a valueadded framework, emphasizing policy and strategy issues. Capstone course for all
Materials and Logistics Management students.
Principles of Transportation Economics. Course emphasizes economic characteristics,
regulation, and public policy implications of rail, motor, air, water, and pipeline
transportation. Carrier and shipper management discussed.
Production/Operations Management. Course establishes a framework for the use of an
organization's resources in producing goods and services. Concepts of planning,
scheduling, and controlling productive activities and physical resources are examined.
Quantitative tools are used throughout the course.
Purchasing Strategy. Course synthesizes purchasing into a systems perspective of
materials management. Strategic implications of purchasing decisions emphasized.
Senior-level, capstone course for purchasing majors.
