Dear Friends
I am pleased to present you the scientific Programme for the 42nd Annual Conference of
UPSOS at Bareilly on 1st and 2nd December 2007.
Friends at the outset I must thank you all for the faith and confidence shown by you in
entrusting me with the responsibility of Chairman Scientific Committee, the charge of which I
took over in November 2006.
Dear members I, along with my team of Scientific Committee have been and will be
working to the best of our capability to bring out a balanced Scientific Programme which not
only will serve the purpose of acquainting our members with the most resent advances in
Ophthalmology and imparting the vision into the future but also caters to the need of our
friends working in semi urban and rural areas, who have to continuously balance between ever
increasing costs of modern technology and provide cost effective optimum vision care to the
Society. At one and of the spectrum the programme brings to us the views from senior
Ophthalmologists who have a vast ocean of experience with them and on the other hand it
provides a platform for our younger Ophthalmologists who have a lot of enthusiasm, ideas,
vision and ambition for the future.
Keeping all the views in mind managing a balanced Scientific Programme has not been
an easy task and I must thank to all members of my scientific committee, specially Dr. Soby
Pandey and Prof. Vinita Singh for their all time cooperation and guidance. My special thanks
are also due to Dr. B. N. Chaudhry and Dr. Kapil of Bareilly whose experienced guidance and
cool profile has effectively integrated the efforts of the Scientific Committee and local
organizing Committee due to which we have been able to bring a galaxy of Ophthalmologists
to converge at this meeting.
I am also over whelmed and to wish to encourage the visibly enhanced enthusiasm for
participation shown by the members of UPSOS.
In the last I will like to have your cooperation, participation and guidance in our future
and endeavor towards achieving furtherance of academics and patient care standards.

Duties
The Chairman shall chair the proceedings of the session. He is expected to ensure that the
session is conducted in an orderly manner. He will also ensure that the timings are strictly
adhered to and that the audience is given sufficient time to clarify its doubts within its
allotted time.
The Co-chairperson will assist the chair person in conducting the session. He will take on
the responsibility of the chairperson if needed.
The Moderators will be primarily responsible for conducting the discussions after the
speaker has completed the talk. It will be the moderators’ responsibility to ensure that all
relevant points are discussed adequately with the Experts and the audience within its
allotted time.
The Convenor shall convene the session, invite the chairperson co chairperson on the dias
and help the Chairman in the conduct of the proceedings. He will also invite the speakers.
All the members on this dais are expected to participate actively in the deliberations held
after the presentations are over.
