Films are free with Museum admission and are followed by coffee and discussion. November 4 – Alexander Calder – American Masters Series (60 min.) November 18 – Calder’s Circus (19 min.) and Mobile by Alexander Calder (24 min.) December 9 – All About Prints (56 min.) Calder Family Day Sunday, November 22, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. A fun-filled day focusing on the art of one of America’s most beloved artists, Alexander Calder. There will be a gallery hunt through the exhibition and art-making activities in the workshop. At 3:00 p.m. Carlton van Pyrz will perform his family show Calder Re-Wired. This interactive performance features elements of Calder’s famous Circus, his wire sculpture, mobiles and stabiles. Mask, mime and puppetry bring the art work of Alexander Calder to life! All activities are suitable for people of all abilities ages 5 years and up, and are free with Museum admission. Teacher’s Workshop Tuesday, December 1, 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. Workshop includes staff tours of the exhibition followed by the presentation of school program and teacher’s materials. Afternoon Art Lecture and Tea: Calder in Connecticut Wednesday, December 2, 1:30 p.m. Eric Zafran, The Susan Morse Hilles Curator of European Art at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, and curator of the 2000 landmark exhibition Calder in Connecticut, will speak on Calder’s life and work here in Connecticut. The lecture will be followed by a tea reception and tours of the exhibition. Panelists to include: Eli Klein – Executive Director of Eli Klein Fine Art, New York, collector and art dealer. Roberta Waddell – Former Curator of Prints (retired), New York Public Library Anthony Kirk -- Artistic Director/Master Printer from the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk. Vacation Workshop: Printmaking Studio Monday – Thursday, December 28, 29, 30, 31, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Inclusive, hands-on art workshops for students in grades 1 – 3, who will explore the exhibition, and then work on related printmaking projects. Monday: Gyotaku – Japanese Fish Printing Tuesday: Scratch Board Printing Wednesday: Silk Screen Printing Thursday: Monotype Prints Each workshop is a complete program, but the four projects are complementary.
