SECTION B
MASTER OF TEACHING (PRIMARY) APPLICANTS
Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES) Requirements
Information in this section referenced from the BOSTES website at http://www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au/future-returning-teachers/become-ateacher/primary-school/.
Undergraduate (and relevant postgraduate) subject content studies are required in addition to a teaching qualification.
For primary teaching this means you need to have a range of studies across curriculum areas in your degree. In order
to assess if your undergraduate (and appropriate postgraduate) degree/s are relevant, you must have completed a
minimum of 8 units* or at least 1 year of full time equivalent study relevant to one or more Key Learning Areas**
(KLAs) of the primary school curriculum. KLAs must include at least one area of English, Maths, Science & Technology,
HSIE, Creative Arts and PDHPE.
The teaching qualification includes Years K-6 teaching methodology and professional experience in primary schools.
Excelsia College determines appropriate study as described in this document.
*Units must be a semester in length.
**Where an applicant does not meet these entry requirements, a tertiary institution may offer concurrent study or appropriate bridging units, and/or
require satisfactory performance in approved tests in literacy and numeracy before graduation.
Assessing Key Learning Areas (KLA)
Using your transcripts, complete Chart A: Key Learning Areas for Master of Teaching Applicants below.
Next to each KLA related area of study, note the number of units you have completed or are currently competing, and
the short name of the Institute and the unit of study code (e.g. UNSW, CODE101).
After you have completed the chart, summarise your studies in the box below.

SECTION C
MASTER OF TEACHING (SECONDARY) APPLICANTS
Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES) Requirements
Information in this section referenced from the BOSTES website at http://www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au/future-returning-teachers/become-ateacher/primary-school/.
Undergraduate (and appropriate postgraduate) studies must include study in a designated area related to a school
subject, as follows:

First designated area requires a minimum of 6 sequential semester-long units of discipline knowledge in a
designated area (equivalent to a minimum of three academic years of study in the designated area), and at
least 4 of these units at level 2 (year 2) or above;

Second designated area, if studied, requires 4 units with 2 units at level 2 or above.
The first designated area determines the first pedagogy/methodology study to be undertaken in the graduate entry
initial teacher education program (such as the Graduate Diploma of Education), and these entry requirements must be
met either prior to admission or before graduation. Excelsia College determines appropriate study as described in this
document.
Prior to completing below, please refer to the specific requirements listed on the BOSTES website for your first teaching
subject and list all the relevant units you have completed.
