AHHH!! Am I going to be able to do this class?! The first day of class had me completely overwhelmed. We have to what when um? What is Web CT all about? I didn’t know what was up and what was down anymore. All I know is this is going to be a lot of work. Am I prepared for this? Can I do it? I guess, I kind of have to. I mean nothing will get in my way of what I want and all I want is to be a teacher. The two assignments that are bothering me are the webquest and the e-folio. I mean I think I will be able to do ok as far as the technology aspect it is the time that I’m worried about. I mean I’m taking on three grad classes this year, and I think I got in a little over my head, but shhh don’t tell anyone. I work fulltime and I’m planning a wedding. I will have to learn to plan out my time to the minute to be able to accomplish all of this. We have found out that pre- assessment has to be one of the most important types of assessment, and yet the most forgotten. The way I look at it, you have to know where you are starting from to know where you have to go. If a teacher doesn’t pre assess her class then how will she know what she has to teach, or if maybe she has to back track to build a strong foundation. I know as I was going through school I can’t seem to remember my teacher ever pre assessing for prior knowledge. I think this is a down fall in the educational system that they are now trying to fix. The teachers that I work with all pre assess their students. It could be that they are now told to or it could be because that’s how they were taught, it doesn’t matter either way as long as they are doing it. 1. Where and what do you plan to teach? 2. What teaching or similar experiences have you had? 3. What has made you proud? 4. What makes you anxious about teaching? 1. 2 3. 4. The Tee shirt idea was great. I really enjoyed making my tee-shirt. It made me think of different aspects of teaching. The other wonderful part of this project was being bale to share our tee shirts with our classmates. I really enjoyed hearing what everyone else’s thoughts were. It was interesting g to see that we all have most of the same anxiety, fear. Even if we didn’t put same we were all able to relate to each others, after all I guess in a way we are all in the same boat. This is an important to find out how a student learns best. This was one of the first task we were given. We took a battery of test to see how we are as learners. From these test the whole class learned a lot about each other and about themselves. It is important for a person to know what kind of learner they are. This is important for teachers to know about their students, to see what the student’s strengths, weakness and interest. According to the test on Educational philosophies, my educational philosophy is a combination of Information Processing, Humanism, and Cognitivism/Constructivism. I was surprise at how each of my philosophies went together. I knew that I couldn’t be a behaviorist because I am more of a hands on learner and therefore that’s how I want to teach. It is important to do a combination of all learning styles to really hone in all of the students. I can’t believe how picking 8 colors can be so actuate on my personality, this completely surprised me. How can this test know that I’m concerned about the environment, and I am capable of relaxing and enjoying the finer things? I mean all I did was eliminate colors and yet it knew things about me. To me test like this one will always amaze me. According to this assessment, my strengths are as follows: Naturalist strength: 60 Musical strength: 50 Logical strength: 30 Existential strength: 60 Interpersonal strength: 70 Kinesthetic strength: 80 Verbal strength: 40 Intrapersonal strength: 100 Visual strength: 100 This test was a very interesting. Some of the results are what I would think. I have always been a visual person, so it is no surprise that my scores would be that high. I have never been a very logical person, therefore it make sense that this score would be so low. There are a few that I am surprise by, those are the verbal scores is a little lower then I would expect and the existential score was a little bit on the lower side too. Over all I think this was a very effective test and is it very interesting to find about myself. This is what is said about me: Peaceful Discreet Non-Aggressive You are easy-going yet discreet. You make friends effortlessly, yet enjoy your privacy and independence. You like to get away from it all and be alone from time to time to contemplate the meaning of life and enjoy yourself. You need space, so you escape to beautiful hideaways, but you are not a loner. You are at peace with yourself and the world, and you appreciate life and what this world has to offer I think is a very good gauge of me. For anyone that knows me would agree that this definitely describes me. I find it amazing how just from picking a picture this test can tell me these things. This didn’t surprise me a bit I have always been a tactile learner. If I am truly going to learn something I need to do it myself. This is obvious to me because in class I learn better when I am taking notes. When I have to study for a test I always do the same thing. I get a yellow legal pad and begin to rewrite my notes. The more I rewrite them the better I will know them. Assessment is important tool to teaching. Not only does a teacher need to pre-assess their students they need to asses them during and after a lesson. It is important to always and a grasp of what your class is understanding and more importantly what they do not understand. In every lesson there has to be some form of assessment. There are many types of assessment. The assessment that I think is under utilized is feedback. Feedback is more then just a letter grade on paper it is constructive comments that help the student learn from their mistakes or it lets them know what about the paper makes it an A. Now that I know all the different types of assessment I know that I will use all the types every time I teach a lesson, because assessment is a tool that is used before, during and after a lesson.
