This colorful and practical example will illustrate the value of engineering, correct materials, human resources, timing, and continuous improvement. This will also address three ways to be green with green, including an exit plan. Although this might seem like just another simple(?) Christmas story, it will highlight some of the core principles of project management in a lighthearted manner! Our Speakers . . Sharon Johnson: is a Management Consultant in business improvement. She moved from Houston TX to Roanoke VA in April 2003, and continues her active career in helping companies develop and execute modern strategic and tactical approaches. Sharon has over 30 years experience in manufacturing and service industries, consulting, and management development. This includes 16 years with Eastman Kodak Company where she served as a Quality Improvement Facilitator. Her work includes hands-on training and applications of quality and productivity improvement, project management, and team development and employee involvement. She has worked in a wide variety of industry sectors, and brings a broad perspective of what works and what doesn’t. Sharon initially earned her BS in Chemistry from Rochester Institute of Technology, and then added to that with becoming a Six Sigma Black Belt, and earning four ASQ certifications and two APICS certifications. Sharon has also been certified as an Auditor for SA 8000, the Social Accountability Standard for human rights in working conditions. She has served on the Board of Examiners for the Texas Quality Award and the Greater Austin Quality Award, and was previously an RAB Certified Auditor for ISO 9000. She served as a member of the TAG (Technical Advisory Group) to the Technical Committee for ISO 14000, Environmental Management Standards. She believes in, and practices, life-long experiential learning to both broaden and deepen her value to others and capabilities to self, and currently serves as adjunct faculty for Workforce Solutions at Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke VA. Don Koop: After receiving his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry in 1962, Don Koop (“Mr. Sharon Johnson”) worked for Eastman Kodak for 30 years in Rochester, NY. His assignments over that period consisted of synthesis of chemicals potentially useful in color photography, testing of such chemicals, and use of such chemicals in conventional films and instant photography. His final few years were spent in studying the testing of color films and papers for their image stability and in the development of equipment and procedures for an electronic image enhancement system. During his entire career, continuous improvement was a hallmark of his work. Eleven years after retirement he relocated to Roanoke with his bride, ultimately becoming an activist in matters of taxation and Constitutional governance.
