Chapter 7 – “Linear Programming Assignment”
1. Solve each system by using the substitution method:
a) y = 6x – 11
-2x – 3y = -7
b) 2x – 3y = -1
y=x–1
c) y = -3x + 5
5x – 4y = -3
2. Solve each system by using the addition/subtraction
method:
a) -4x + y = 6
-5x – y = 21
b) -3x – 3y = 3
y = -5x – 17
c) -5x – 8y = 17
2x – 7y = -17
3. Solve each system using the method of your choice:
a) x + y = 4
3x + 4y = 10
b) -2x – y = -9
5x – 2y = 18
c) 7x + 2y = 2
x – 2y = 14
4. Mike has a total of $155 consisting of $2 and $5 bills. If she
has 40 bills in all, how many of each does she have?
5. A hockey team bought 70 pucks for a total cost of $120. If
the pucks used for practice cost $1.50 and the pucks used for
games cost $2.25 each, then how many of each puck did they
buy?
6. The cost of running a truck is $0.42/km in the city and
$0.33/km on the highway. In one month Sam traveled 1200km
and the total cost was $457.02. How many kilometers did he
travel in the city and on the highway?
