Guidance Announcements

We will be taking all seniors for a campus visit to Vincennes University on Thursday, October 25 th.
We will leave school at approximately 8:15am. We will have an Admissions Presentation,
campus tour, and eat lunch in the dining center. Many thanks to Vincennes University as they
are paying for our transportation and food!! In the afternoon, seniors will get the unique
opportunity to meet with INDOT officials in regard to jobs and careers related to I-69. We will
also get to drive the bus on the I-69 corridor!! Students are welcome to bring their cameras for
this memorable experience!!

We have developed a ‘2012-2013 Scholarship Booklet’ for students and parents. This is a
compilation of all the scholarships that came through the guidance office last year and what we
expect to be available this school year. The Scholarship Booklet can be found on our website at


The early action deadline for University of Evansville is December 1, 2012. Students interested in
the physical therapy direct entry program need to apply by November 1, 2012. If you apply
online your application fee is waived. The website is www.evansville.edu/apply or


Indiana State University School of Music offers the following undergraduate majors: music
education, music business, performance, composition, music/liberal arts, and piano pedagogy.

Juniors: University of Indianapolis is hosting the Lugar Symposium on December 8, 2012. This is a
leadership seminar and we may nominate one junior from Barr-Reeve to attend with other
juniors from around the state. This is a great experience for anyone interested in learning more
about leadership, civics, and current events. For more information on the event and to be


Valparaiso University is hosting summer programs for high school students. Some of the summer
programs include robotics, animation and gaming, and engineering. For more information visit


Oakland City University is offering new online programs in business and criminal justice. OCU
provides an environment grounded in Christian beliefs, developing students’ minds,
academically, their hearts, spiritually, and their hands in a desire to lead in service.

Illinois Wesleyan University’s School of Music offers degree programs in Music Performance,
Music, Music in Composition, Music Education (Vocal or Instrumental). For more info, visit

College Preview Days/Open Houses
*Students are allowed two days of college visitations during their senior year and one day during their junior year.
It is the responsibility of the student/parent to set up an individual college visit. To do so, you should contact the
Admissions Office at the particular university at least 2 weeks prior to the date you would like to visit. Students
must have proper paperwork (2 forms) on file in the guidance office for the absence to be excused and not count
as an absence.

The College of Technology at Purdue University is hosting Windows of Opportunity for Women in
Technology (WOWiT) on Saturday, October 20, 2012 for girls in Project Lead the Way classes. The
purpose of the program is to introduce high school students, especially females, to the College of
Technology and all its possibilities. For more information please visit

Marian University Indianapolis will be hosting a Preview Day on Saturday, October 13th; Experience
Business Day on Monday, October 22nd; Nursing Encounter Day on Friday, November 9 th Register at

The Diesel Equipment Technology Program at Wabash Valley College is hosting Diesel Day on October
17, 2012. The event will start at 8 a.m. and end at about 2:30 p.m. and will include lunch and hands on
opportunities for students. If you are interested, see Mrs. Sward about registration by September 28,
2012.
ITT Technical Institute is having an open house for high school seniors to inform them about the many
opportunities that ITT Tech has to offer. The open house is on Saturday, October 13th from 10 am - 1pm.

University of Indianapolis will be hosting High School Day on Saturday, October 27th for high school
juniors and seniors interested in learning more about U of I. Registration begins at 9am. Students can
rsvp at http://admissions.uindy.edu/rsvp/highschoolday. Everything, including lunch, is FREE!
University of Southern Indiana will host ‘Accounting Day’ on Friday, October 26th from 9:00am (Central
Time) until 1:00pm. Accounting Day is for high school students interested in an accounting career. The
event allows students to learn more about USI’s Accounting Department, but also about related

University of Southern Indiana: USI will be hosting Southern Hospitality Days on numerous dates this
fall and next spring. The dates are: October 13, October 27, November 10, February 2, February 16,

Vincennes University: VU will be hosting PreVU days on October 19, October 20, November 16 or

Indiana University: IU offers Discover IU days Monday through Friday most week days of the year and

Rose-Hulman: Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology offers individual visit days throughout the week.
To schedule a visit, it is best to request the date you wish to attend two weeks ahead of time. You can

Indiana State University: ISU has scheduled Sycamore Preview Days for October 8, November 12,
January 29, February 18, and April 20. To register, call 1-800-GO-TO-ISU or online www.indstate.edu.
University Of Evansville: U of E has scheduled several open houses for prospective students. Upcoming
dates for these events are October 13, November 10, January 21, March 16, and April 6. If you are

Purdue University: Purdue will host Fall Preview Days on October 17th , 19th, 25th, and Nov. 5th. To RSVP,

IUPUI invites you to attend “Dental Days” on Saturday, November 17, 2012. Students interested in
dentistry, dental hygiene, or dental assisting may find it very beneficial to attend. Dental Days will be
held at 9:00 AM at the Indiana University School of Dentistry on the IUPUI campus. Individuals must

Wabash Valley College will be hosting a regional college fair on November 7, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. It will
be located in the Spencer Sports Center.
Emory University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Norte Dame, and University
of Virginia are hosting a special program on October 8 at 7 p.m. The evening will be an introduction to
their respective institutions and a discussion of their admission and financial aid processes. The event is

Indiana State University School of Music auditions for admission and scholarship consideration will be

John F. Kennedy Profiles in Courage Essay Contest

Eligibility for the American Legion Family Scholarship is open to the children and

The Army has developed a new test prep program for you! March 2 Success is an online test prep
course that will provide help with taking standardized tests, and improve math, language arts, and

SAT preparation workshop for college-bound high school students will be offered at the Martin
County Learning Center by Karen Whorrall. This class will assist preparing students in securing
competitively high scores for placement. This workshop is scheduled on Wednesdays, Oct. 10
through Oct. 31 from 7-9pm. Cost for the session is $25.00. For registration or further information,
