Aims and objectives: In this subject, the student is acknowledged with laws as momentum
share, energy, mass of systems, thermodynamics laws, thermodynamics process, phase
change, moist air, cycles of engines, heat transfer, compressible flow in thermodynamics,
cycles of engines, heat transfer
Course content: Thermodynamic system, Equilibrium and nonequilibrium system,
Temperature, heat and quanitative laws of gases, Zeroth law of thermodynamics, First law of
thermodynamics, Second law of thermodynamics, Third law of thermodynamics, Onsager
reciprocal relations ( Fourth Law of Thermodynamics), Thermodynamic potentials, Internal
energy, Helmholtz free energy, Enthalpy, Gibbs free energy Isolated Systems , Adiabatic
Systems, Diathermic Systems, Closed Systems, Open Systems
Thermodynamic processes, isobaric, isochoric, isothermal, adiabatic, isentropic, isenthalpic,
steady state process, Phase change, Phase equilibrium and phase diagrams, The Clausius –
Clapeyron Equation, Moist air,Bernoulli's principle Compressible flow equation, Compressible
flow in thermodynamics, Laval nozzle, Cycle of combustion engine and gas turbine, Compressor
with dead space, efficiency, Cycle of compressor refrigerator, Rankin cycle, Heat transfer by
