FIXIING OF 2007-2008 APPOINTMENTS
AND
SEALING OUR COVENANT
The appointments are announced by district; the bishop formally fixes these appointments for
the 2007-2008 conference year.
CHARGE TO THE CLERGY
The bishop invites all clergy (the licensed, commissioned, consecrated, and ordained
ministers) to stand. The bishop then says:
In faithfulness to God who has called you to ministry, will you go where you are sent or have
been called to serve Christ with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength?
THE RESPONSE OF THE CLERGY
By God’s grace we are called into a ministry of love and service. In God’s
strength we will go where we are sent and called. With God’s help, we will strive
to be faithful, loyal servants of Christ.
CHARGE TO THE LAITY
The bishop invites the clergy to remain standing, and also invites all laity (the baptized
ministers) to stand. The bishop then says:
As people committed to uphold the Church by your prayers, presence, gifts, and service, will
you affirm and receive these women and men as servants of our Savior Jesus Christ, and
pledge to them your support?
THE RESPONSE OF THE LAITY
We joyfully reaffirm our faith in Christ and our commitment to the ministry of his
church. We will receive these persons as servants among us, and we will
support them in our shared ministries.
THE COVENANT
All remain standing. The bishop addresses the congregation.
Commit yourselves as his servants. Give yourselves to him, that you may belong to
him. Christ has many services to be done. Some services are more easy and
honorable, other services are more difficult and disgraceful. In some services we may
please Christ and please ourselves. But then there are other works where we cannot
please Christ except by denying ourselves. Let us therefore go to Christ and pray:

All pray together:
Let me be your servant under your command. I will no longer be my own. I will
give myself to your will in all things. Lord, make me what you will. I put myself
fully into your hands:
Put me to doing, put me to suffering,
Let me be employed for you, or laid aside for you,
Exalted for you, or brought low for you,
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and with a willing heart give it all to your pleasure and disposal.
Almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you have now become my Covenant
Friend. And I, through your infinite grace, have become your covenant servant.
So be it.
And let the covenant I have made on earth be ratified in heaven. Amen.
