Yes, I know you’re enjoying your summer vacation but I also want you to be well prepared for our initial classes in the fall. You should visit the AP Calculus AB website hosted by College Board. It will provide detailed information about their expectations regarding what a student should know prior to starting AP Calculus and what a student should expect to learn. Note that it is expected that a student is able to find zeros and evaluate certain trig and exponential and log functions without the aid of a calculator. The link is: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/sub_calab.html?calcab Limits, our first calculus topic, will require that you are able to use concepts from trigonometry, exponential and logarithmic functions. A brief review of this material can be found in Chapter 1 of the calculus text. The AP Calculus class does not review the material in Chapter 1. It is expected that you will purchase your text in well in advance and review the material prior to our first meeting. Listed below are suggested problems for you to review from Chapter 1. You may need to do more problems than are listed if you find any of the material particularly difficult or of your recall is poor. You may consider forming a study group to make the task easier. You should pace yourself so that you can complete your review prior to the start of school. These problems will not be collected or discussed in class but will be quizzed on within the first week of class.
