JOB DESCRIPTION:

JOB SUMMARY:
The Science Lecturer (General Science) is primarily responsible for the preparation of
materials for teaching and assessment of courses in general science (Biology,
Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics), under the direction and supervision of the
Female Nursing Institute Manager.
2.0
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
2.1
To prepare and deliver all teaching materials, including notes, hand-outs,
references, tapes and slides.
2.2
To undertake a teaching load not exceeding 24 class contact hours per week.
2.3
To assist staff in the preparation and review of course curricula.
2.4
To supervise and/or invigilate mid-semester and end of semester examinations.
2.5
To prepare and assess all homework, class and laboratory tests and exercises
and examination.
2.6
To maintain proper records of all assessments and to provide such information
as may be required by the Female Nursing Institute Manager, including the
preparation of student progress reports.
2.7
To keep a record of student attendance at all classes, in accordance with
current Institute policies.
2.8
To maintain high standards of students discipline in all classes.

To liaise with the laboratory Superintendent regarding provisioning for
laboratory classes.
2.10
To maintain safety in laboratory and clinical classes and to warn Institute staff
of any new hazards.
2.11
To attend departmental meetings and participate fully in the departmental
activities.
2.12
To assist in the induction of new students and to participate in the student tutor
system.
2.13
To undertake other ad hoc duties as directed by the Female Nursing Institute
Manager.
HOURS OF WORK:
Standard working week of 48 hours per week. The actual work will be scheduled in
accordance with the departments operating requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:

4.2
Qualifications:
4.1.1
Bachelors Degree in any basic science (biology, chemistry or physics).
4.1.2
Higher degree (M.Sc or Ph.D) in a scientific subject is desirable.
4.1.3
Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), or its equivalent,
specializing in a science subject.
Professional Experience:
4.2.1
Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience in any basic science at
college or secondary school level.
4.2.2
Experience at work in the Arab world is highly desirable.

Specialized Knowledge:
4.3.1
Knowledge of current developments in some area of health education
is highly desirable.
4.3.2
A working knowledge of some of the more commonly used word
processing software package is highly desirable.
4.3.3
Fluency in Arabic is highly desirable.
