Project 1 Developing the Profession
To respond to the challenges in diverse health and social
care sectors by expanding the professional role of family
therapy and systemic practice. AFT will work to provide
its members with a context which facilitates
developments in the profession.
This is an exciting new project to help develop the profession. We are looking for an experienced
family and systemic psychotherapist who can work with the other three Project Co-ordinators to
develop this exciting area of AFT’s work.
We are seeking to contract an individual (either self-employed or working as a contractor through
a separate limited company) to take on this work for AFT for a period of 2 years. This will be based
on an annualised contract of 220 hours paid at circa £25 per hour. We do appreciate that the
time offered to these posts is limited but the posts have been designed to be manageable and
sustainable for AFT. It is envisaged that the role will benefit project leaders personally and also
provide an opportunity for providing CPD hours through attending events and demonstrating
commitment to professional activity, which supports family therapy and systemic practice.
The individual will be expected to manage their own time and workload. The aim is that the 4 new
project leads will be able to work together and support each other, responsible to the Professional
Executive Officer (PEO)/Chair and reporting to the AFT Management Board.
The key tasks of this Project Co-Ordinator will be to:
1. Support AFT in developing its 5 year strategic plan and SMART Objectives to achieve this.
2. Work with Chairs of Committees, in particular Registration, Professional Affairs Committee,
Ethics Committee and DEI, to identify smart objectives in order to achieve this plan.
3. Ensure that members are aware of the requirements for UKCP Registration and
Registration as an approved supervisor.
4. Ensure AFT policies and documents are in accordance with the requirements of UKCP and
meet the needs of the profession.
5. Ensure that AFT is represented within UKCP and there is good two way communication.
6. Develop links with employers and review the support that can be offered by the
Professional Affairs Committee in terms of national assessors, information sheets etc.
7. Facilitate network meetings of professional leads if and when required, subject to
agreement with the AFT Board.
8. Create special interest groups for members on workplace matters.
9. Develop links with the Unions and provide information on the AFT website

10. Work with the Project Co-ordinator for membership to generate information and support
networks for members working in the non-statutory, voluntary and private sectors.
11. Support members in maintaining ethical practice, working with the Ethics committee to
ensure the AFT Code of Ethics is fit for purpose
12. Advise members as appropriate on professional issues.
Terms and Conditions
The Project Co-ordinator will either be self-employed or will be working as a contractor
through a separate limited company. Appropriate evidence of self-employed or contractor
status will be required e.g. relevant correspondence with HMRC. The individual will be
responsible for their own tax and national insurance and equipment to undertake the
work.
The individual will not have employment rights. However, AFT is an organisation that
respects issues of diversity, equal opportunities and inclusivity for those working on behalf
of the organisation and would expect those carrying out work for the organisation to also
adhere to high standards of respectful practice.
The individual will be able to make decisions about how the work is to be undertaken and
would be expected to work autonomously on tasks agreed with the PEO/Chair in line with
the strategic plan set out by the AFT Board. Specific meeting dates will be agreed with the
PEO/Chair to review the project and tasks completed.
Either AFT or the individual is entitled to end the contract by giving 4 weeks’ notice in
writing. If the Board of Directors and Trustees consider that the objectives are not being
met or that the individual is not conducting himself/herself appropriately then they reserve
the right to end the contract.
The individual is expected to work an annualised contract of 220 hours, but with a
minimum requirement of 9 hours per calendar month and a maximum of 30 hours per
calendar month, unless by prior arrangement. Time away from work should be notified to
the PEO/Chair and Executive Officer, but AFT is unable to provide cover for the individual
for holidays and sickness.
A budget for this work will be agreed annually with the Treasurer including travel expenses.
Payment will be made in arrears within 30 days of receipt of monthly invoice from the
individual provided that AFT is satisfied with the quality and scope of work undertaken.
