Our program promotes listening, understanding, reading, writing, and speaking. We also teach historical, geographic, and cultural aspects of these languages, challenging students to grow in their faith, sense of global community, and service to others. Students from kindergarten through grade five explore Spanish and French language and society; grades six and seven study Latin to build linguistic skills, grammar, and vocabulary; eighth graders through seniors may seek proficiency via five years of development in their chosen language. Course Overview: Students will continue their study of Latin grammar while increasing their overall language abilities greatly. Grammar includes active and passive voice, subjunctive mood, all forms of infinitives and participles, and various subordinate clauses. Projects in Roman culture and civilization focus upon Republican Rome in the final one hundred and fifty years before Christ. Additional Course Information: Required: C- or above in Latin I or Grade 7 Latin at Providence Academy. Approximately one chapter is covered every 2 weeks. Participate. This includes, but is not limited to, being on time, being prepared, and being respectful. It also means being involved in all classroom assignments and activities and asking for help when you need it! Participation will not be tracked specifically. Rather, at the end of the quarter your participation may impact your calculated grade being raised a “plus” mark, lowered a “minus” mark, or remaining the same. In some cases a student’s extra effort may be recognized here and be used to raise a grade beyond just a “plus.” Homework. Students are responsible for turning all assignments in on time. Unexcused late assignments are recorded with zero credit until turned in and are not eligible for full credit. If you are absent the day an assignment is due, it will be due on your return. You are also responsible for missed assignments due to absences. Attendance: It is your responsibility to find out what you have missed when you are absent. This includes copying any notes taken in class on the day you are absent. If your absence is unexcused, you will receive a 0 for any work assigned that day. If you are absent the day before a test or quiz that has been previously announced, you will be expected to take the test or quiz if you return on the scheduled day. If you are absent on the day of a test or quiz, you will need to schedule time with me to make it up. Fiat benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem fructus ventris tui, Jesus. nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus peccatoribus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen. tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen Doxologia Minor GLORIA Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto. Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen. Oblatio Sui SUSCIPE, Domine, universam meam libertatem. Credo in Spiritum Sanctum, sanctam Ecclesiam catholicam, sanctorum communionem, remissionem peccatorum, carnis resurrectionem, vitam aeternam. Amen. Anima Christi Anima Christi, sanctifica me. Corpus Christi, salve me. Sanguis Christi, inebria me. Aqua lateris Christi, lava me. Passio Christi, conforta me. O bone Iesu, exaudi me. Intra tua vulnera absconde me. Ne permittas me separari a te. Ab hoste maligno defende me. In hora mortis meæ voca me. Et iube me venire ad te, ut cum Sanctis tuis laudem te in sæcula sæculorum. Amen. Prayer of Self-dedication to Jesus LORD Jesus Christ, take all my freedom, my memory, my understanding, and my will. All that I have and cherish Thou hast given me. I surrender it all to be guided by Thy will. Thy grace and Thy love are wealth enough for me. Give me these Lord Jesus and I ask for nothing more. Amen. Confiteor Confiteor Deo omnipotenti, beatae Mariae semper Virgini, beato Michaeli Archangelo, beato Ioanni Baptistae, sanctis Apostolis Petro et Paulo, et omnibus Sanctis, quia peccavi nimis cogitatione, verbo et opere: mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. Ideo precor beatam Mariam semper Virginem, beatum Michaelem Archangelum, beatum Ioannem Baptistam, sanctos Apostolos Petrum et Paulum, et omnes Sanctos, orare pro me ad Dominum Deum nostrum. Amen. I confess to almighty God, to blessed Mary ever Virgin, to blessed Michael the Archangel, to blessed John the Baptist, to the holy apostles Peter and Paul, and to all the saints that I have sinned exceedingly in thought, word, and deed, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore, I beseech blessed Mary ever Virgin, blessed Michael the Archangel, blessed John the Baptist, the holy apostles Peter and Paul, and all the saints, to pray for me to the Lord our God. Amen.
