HOMEWORK
Students in Year 11 will be set homework in all subjects each week. They are expected to
spend at least an hour on each homework task set and on average, students will be set 3
homeworks per night. Your son/daughter may be asked to spend time on revision in
addition to the homework tasks and as they approach their GCSEs, they will be asked to
complete past papers and exam questions which can often require more time.
Teachers will always seek to give students the appropriate amount of time in order to
complete work to the highest quality. Homework set in one week may be due to be handed
in the following week, in order to give GCSE students time at the weekend to complete it in
sufficient detail.
If your son/daughter is struggling to keep up with homework or you think that they are not
receiving enough, please contact Mrs Connolly, the Deputy Headteacher or the relevant
Head of Department.
You should expect to see your son/daughter receiving 2 homeworks per week in all
subjects in Year 11.
Personalised homework timetables will be issued to students on Monday 24th September.
Departments will be issuing specific details about revision sessions and how parents can
support their son/daughter’s preparation for GCSE at the Year 11 Parents Evening on
Wednesday 14th November 2012. We would also strongly recommend that you attend the
Study Skills workshop on Thursday 25th October 2012 at 7.00pm.
Please note:
Holidays: During every holiday and on many weekends, we will offer revision sessions to
students in school. It is absolutely imperative that Year 11 students do not go on holiday
until they have finished their examinations in June. Taking holidays during these times
means that students miss a vital opportunity and can result in lower GCSE grades. Under
no circumstances should any Year 11 students go on holiday during term time.

All Year 11 students will be sitting their GCSE Mathematics exams in November
2012. These dates have been included in the examinations timetable. Students will need
to revise for these 2 examinations during the October half-term.
All students will also have English GCSE modules in January 2013. Students
studying English Literature will also have module exams if they are retaking last summer’s
exam on ‘Tsotsi’ or ‘Of Mice and Men’. Students should spend a significant amount of time
in the Christmas holidays preparing for these exams.
Some students will be re-sitting modules in other subjects if they did not pass in the
June 2012 exam series. If you require any clarification on re-sits, please contact the
Head of Department.
