1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is

The Coordinator Director, Marketing and Recruiting, develops and identifies new recruiting
opportunities and oversees departmental marketing and recruitment efforts for the Intensive English
Language Center (IELC), a critical pathway for non-native speakers of English intending to enroll in
undergraduate and graduate degree programs at the University of Nevada, Reno (University). The
Coordinator is responsible for the marketing and recruiting budget, utilizing it to direct and coordinate
recruitment activities, manage overseas and domestic relationships/partners, and develop internal
processes. The Coordinator designs and implements customized educational programs for
international students. The Coordinator reports to the IELC Director.

60% - Marketing and Recruiting Methods
 Direct and coordinate Departmental marketing and recruiting efforts
 Research, review, and evaluate prospective recruiting opportunities and develop plans,
proposals and strategies which include establishing and working within an annual budget
 Identify suitable partners abroad; establish and maintain successful business relationships
with international education agencies and schools, government and non-government entities
 Represent IELC and the University on international trips abroad to promote program offerings
and develop relationships with educational and governmental agencies and other international
partners
 Direct and coordinate internal processes to facilitate prospective student and agency inquiries,
and international student admission/enrollment
 Team with the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) in the implementation of
cost efficiencies in recruitment and marketing efforts
 Provide general information about degrees and programs available for international students
wanting to pursue a degree in an institution of higher education in the United States
 Provide basic immigration advisement for international students as it pertains to them
attending IELC and the University
 Manage established overseas relationships/partnerships and facilitate effective and clear
communication between all parties involved
 Assess needs and design recruitment and marketing materials to support implementation of
annual and future plan(s) including: written, printed, web-based. Materials may be produced in
house or by working with outside vendors
 Monitor and track recruiting efforts throughout the year and evaluate data for effectiveness or
ineffectiveness, keeping in mind potential modifications that may be required due to
unforeseen local and/or global changes (economic, political, and regulatory)
 Ensure that innovative strategies and approaches are incorporated into plans and policies
30% - Short-Term and Customized Programs Coordination
 Identify and research suitable educational and marketing partners abroad
 Assess feasibility of potential customized programs, as well as evaluate effectiveness of ongoing programs

Develop, manage, and deliver special and customized education programs throughout the
academic year
Work with program Director to establish hiring needs and curricula to meet the unique
requirements of each group
Measure program success and implement changes to enhance value and/or future of program
10% - Program Representative
 Act as representative of program as needed with other campus offices, departments, faculty,
staff, government organizations, community and NGO’s to promote program and facilitate
recruitment i.e., International Education Week, NAFSA conferences and/or events, other
international education focused occasions, etc.
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Director has a very visible role in promoting international education and providing opportunities
for international students to enter the University which supports the University’s mission to
internationalize the campus. The position acts as a representative of the program and University.
Initiative and autonomy are required in order to promote and provide opportunities for international
students to begin their studies at the University and eventually enter an academic degree program,
directly affecting the international student population on campus. Although this individual works
closely with, and advises the Director, the position assumes resourcefulness, independence, and
expertise with respect to marketing and recruiting. The individual must be able to make judgments
and take action when opportunities arise and immediate decisions must be made.
Impact:
Decisions regarding marketing and recruiting are crucial to the program and have a significant
influence on enrollment and student numbers, directly affecting the financial and overall wellbeing and
vigor of the program, which supports the University’s mission to increase international students and
diversify the international student population on campus. Decisions made by the Director impact the
level of success of the program and may have a direct and/or indirect effect on international University
objectives, and errors may result in negative impact on University reputation overseas.
