WBUAP MRGA 2014: Logistics Book
Weather
Hong Kong has a subtropical climate. The average temperature in autumn lies between
19°C and 28°C. There are pleasant breezes, plenty of sunshine and comfortable
temperatures. Many people regard the autumn months as the best time of the year to
visit Hong Kong.
Transportation
Hong Kong is geographically compact and boasts one of the world's most efficient, safe,
affordable and frequent public transport systems. Whether by taxi, ferry, rail, bus or tram,
you can get around easily and catch wonderful glimpses of the city along the way.
Airport Express
From Hong Kong's airport at Chep Lap Kok you can reach the Central District by the
Airport Express Line (AEL) in about 24 minutes. In-town-check-in facilities are available
at Hong Kong AEL Station and Kowloon AEL Station. Passengers can enjoy the free
shuttle buses to most major hotels and major transport interchanges at Hong Kong AEL
Station and Kowloon AEL Station and the free porter service available at all Airport
Express stations. For further details, please visit the website of Hong Kong International
Airport.
MTR
The MTR consists of ten rail lines, including Island, Tsuen Wan, Kwun Tong, Tseung
Kwan O, Tung Chung, West Rail, East Rail, Ma On Shan, Disneyland Resort and the
Airport Express. The MTR also operates a light rail system that runs between Yuen Long
and Tuen Mun in the New Territories, plus an inter-city train service to Mainland China.
For further details, please visit the website of the MTR Corporation Limited at
http://www.mtr.com.hk/en/customer/main/index.html.
Buses
Buses in Hong Kong are plentiful and comfortable, and most are air-conditioned.
Especially popular are the double-deckers that offer great views of the surrounding city
from the top deck. For further details, please visit the websites of the The Kowloon Motor
Bus Co.(1933) Ltd., Citybus Limited New World First Bus Services Limited and New
Lantao Bus (1973) Co., Ltd.
Minibuses
Minibuses are small buses that carry approximately 16 people. Green minibuses operate
along specific routes at fixed prices. Exact change is required if paying by cash and they
all accept Octopus cards. Red minibuses operate along routes that are not always fixed
and passengers can get on and off anywhere along the route, except where special
prohibitions apply.
Ferry
As a coastal city, Hong Kong regularly operates ferry routes that connect Hong Kong
Island, Kowloon and the Outlying Islands. For further details, please visit the websites of
the The Star Ferry Company Limited, New World First Ferry Services Limited and Hong
Kong and Kowloon Ferry Holdings Limited.

WBUAP MRGA 2014: Logistics Book
Tram
Tram Neighbourhoods you might pass through on your journey include some of Hong
Kong's most colourful, such as Western district, Wan Chai, Happy Valley, Causeway
Bay and North Point. Trams run daily from early morning until midnight. No matter how
far you travel, each tram ride costs a flat fare of $2.30 and exact change is required if
you are paying by cash. For further details, please visit the website of Hong Kong
Tramways Limited.
Taxi
With the exception of some very remote areas, taxis are plentiful throughout Hong Kong.
They can usually be hailed in the street (except in restricted areas) or summoned by
phone. All are metered, relatively cheap, air-conditioned and clean.
Currency
The legal tender is the Hong Kong dollar (HK$), which is linked to the US dollar at a rate
of about 7.80 HKD to 1 USD, although exchange rates may fluctuate slightly.
Most foreign currencies and travellers' cheques can be changed at banks, moneychangers, hotels and major retail outlets. Banks usually offer the best exchange rate.
The Hong Kong dollar notes are available in $10, $20, $50, $100, $500 and $1,000
denominations. Coins come in 10¢, 20¢, 50¢, $1, $2, $5 and $10 denominations.
As there is no bank inside Cyberport, you are suggested to exchange for local currency
at the airport.
Bank
Most banks in Hong Kong open from 09:00 to 16:30 on weekdays, 09:00 to 12:30 on
Saturdays and close on Sunday and public holidays.
