Summer Assignment 2014
Dear Student,
Congratulations on accepting the challenge of this class! Due to the enormous amount of information that
needs to be covered before the examination next May, it is necessary to complete the following work
before returning to school in the fall. In the first two weeks of class, you can expect to do a major
laboratory on Unit 8, individual chapter quizzes as well as your first examination on the ecology unit.
As per recommendation of the classes from previous years, I have given you material for both Units 8 and
Unit 1. All material for Unit 8 (Ecology) is due the day you return to school next fall. Unit 1 will not be
due until later; however, I recommend, as well as my previous classes recommend, that you get as much of
this done while you have the time.
Required, due first day back:
1. Notes on Chapters 51-56
a. These may be typed or handwritten. However, you want to make them as neat as
possible so they can be useful to you in the future.
2. Study guides for chapters 51-56
a. “Interactive questions” within text
b. “Structure your Knowledge”
i. Attach these on a separate sheet of paper if there isn’t room to answer in
packet
c. “Test Your Knowledge”.
3. Please hand in the above assignment in a neat, well-organized portfolio, to expedite grading.
4. Please set up a Gmail account if you have not done so already and send me an email stating
that you’re in the 2014-2015 AP class. Feel free to give me an update on how that summer
assignment is coming as well.
Due later in September:
1. Study guides for Unit 1
a. Interactive questions and Multiple choice questions only
Recommended, but not required:
1. Begin a vocabulary notebook and keep up with vocabulary for each chapter.
2. Begin a study group that meets on a weekly basis- if not more.
The required assignment is part of your term grade and will be collected during the first class. If you have
questions, you are more than welcome to contact me. I highly recommend you get started on the above
assignment before the completion of this school year so that you may ask me questions face-to-face.
However, you are more than welcome to contact me through the summer.

If you are able to complete one chapter per week, then you should be in good shape come this fall. Try to
have a fun, relaxing and safe summer. I am looking forward to working with you next year. Knowing
most of you already, I know that we’ll have an exciting, productive year.
Sincerely,
Rae Alison Maloney
