Pre-AP English 9 Study Guide Fall Final Your final exam will be divided into two parts: the objective test and the written test. The format of the exam is as follows: Objective Test: This test covers grammar and the epic. It is a multiple choice, matching, true or false test. Grammar: You need to be able to identify the following: subjects and predicates types of verbs fragments and run-ons phrases and clauses types of clauses simple, compound, complex and compound-complex sentences “The Odyssey”: You need to understand and be able to identify: background information about Homer and the Greek gods elements of an epic (including a definition) epithets, epic similes and other figurative language in the poem characters based on descriptors (matching) important ideas gleaned from a close reading of the poem quotations based on an understanding of character or important plot events (matching) Written Test: This test is your written response to one of several prompts I will provide to you in class. You will not know the exact prompt, but the topics are below. Your carefully written response, using the SUE format, should be no more than two paragraphs in length. Here are the general topics: the epic hero figurative language in the poem cultural aspects of Greek society other odysseys themes STUDY RESOURCES: Use your returned quizzes, returned study questions from Books 9, 10 13-15 and 23, journals assignments, Greek Gods video guide and your “World Mythology” textbook to study for the exam.
