Liam McCarthy Scholarship
PCI College are delighted to announce as part of our 20 year celebrations, the introduction of the Liam
McCarthy Scholarship, in honour of our Co-Founder. The winning applicant will receive Full Fees for our
Middlesex University BSc(Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy.
Remarkably it was indeed back in 1991 that our pioneering co-founders Liam McCarthy, sadly no longer with
us, and Josephine Murphy founded the Personal Counselling Institute (now PCI College). This was a time when
mental health was not on the political, media or public agenda in Ireland. Their ground-breaking work helped
begin the process of the counselling/psychotherapy profession being seen on an equal footing with other
professions. 20 years on, we at PCI College continue with our founders pioneering work by embracing the
continued raising of academic standards while still making training as accessible as possible and by continuing
to set a high standard of personal development in training.

The Community Foundation for Ireland
The Community Foundation for Ireland works with community and voluntary groups in the Republic of
Ireland. Through the Grassroots Grants Scheme it aims to support the disadvantaged in our communities
by providing small grants for specific projects that will contribute to alleviating isolation and disadvantage.
Since 2000, the scheme has supported hundreds of groups in this way.
The Grassroots Grants Scheme has allowed us to build links and forge relationships with those working at
grassroots level in Irish society. The outcomes we learn from projects we fund give us a bank of
knowledge and a unique perspective on the issues of greatest concern within the sector. To see the
impact we have had in each county in Ireland with these grants please view our Grants Impact Map

The Grant Round
The objective of the Small Grants Round is to enable as many organisations as possible to fund new and innovative
responses to social need. The amount of funding available will vary from year to year but is typically around $1 million.
Applicants can apply online during the period in which the Grant Round is open, which is typically February - March.
Grant Round Funding
Organisations typically begin their funding relationship with The Ireland Funds when they are awarded a grant through the
Grant Round. Donors occasionally identify projects through the Grant Round that they wish to support longer term
through donor advised gifts and, while a relatively small number of organisations receive funding in this way, we
continuously update our records on charities should a donor express an interest in supporting an area in which they are
active.
Grant Round Funding Priorities
The Worldwide Ireland Funds accept applications for projects in the following areas:







