FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MARYLAND WOMAN RECOGNIZED FOR
OUTSTANDING NONPROFIT SERVICE
Baltimore, MD (April 2013) – Jeanne L. Allert, Founder and Executive Director of The
Samaritan Women, and Chair of the Maryland Rescue and Restore Coalition, has been chosen to
receive the Nonprofit Individual Award for Outstanding Nonprofit Service by the Maryland
Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration. The award recognizes outstanding
accomplishment in nonprofit service.
When informed about the award, U.S. Marshal Johnny L. Hughes for the District of
Maryland said, “Jeanne Allert is a champion and luminary in the area of Human Trafficking and
has heightened the awareness of the ills associated with this detestable crime. I applaud Director
Allert’s ongoing and meaningful work with the Samaritan Women, and the United States
Marshals Service looks forward to our continuing working relationship with Director Allert in
combatting Human Trafficking and the associated crimes.”
Under Jeanne’s leadership, in early 2012, The Samaritan Women opened one of the only
long-term restoration programs for the victims of sex trafficking in the Mid-Atlantic. The Dept.
of Justice estimates there are 300,000 American children who fall victim to modern day sexslavery, but there are few resources for these victims. The Samaritan Women is on the leading
edge of the battle to create awareness and bring resources to bear. The TSW Residence supports
14 women survivors, and represents 8% of the nationwide capacity of beds.

Jeanne established The Maryland Rescue and Restore Coalition in 2008, a statewide social
justice initiative against human trafficking, which promotes awareness, advocacy, prevention,
intervention, and restoration. Jeanne has effectively and consistently drawn together partners
from industry, academia, faith organizations, and law enforcement to help combat trafficking,
and to provide volunteers and resources to serve victims.
"I commend Jeanne Allert for her outstanding leadership and advocacy in helping us in
the General Assembly pass major laws this year to fight human trafficking. Her contributions
are immeasurable and will help improve and uplift the lives of those victims who are some of the
most vulnerable and helpless.” -- Susan C. Lee, Maryland Delegate
